 - Unfortunately that doesn't hold up for three reasons:-

1. My XBOX held up on it fine for around 2 years
2. There's too much evidence the XBOX360's build quality is absolutely and genuinely inferior to most other electronics
3. I have had 3 XBOX360's die on me on the TV stand

The 6th one I own now has lasted the longest by a long margin.

To be fair Sarge is referring to the new one's, not the shoddy crap we had early on. They do seem a lot better (going by a direct comparison).

I think Judoscar is being quite genuine , I think it's just a curse for the poor bloke to even get a duff from a batch that seem to be better in many key ways.

Fishy is indeed correct. There might have been a couple of faulty consoles in the new batch...but for the most part they are much more reliable than the older build.

Makes me want to keel over when I hear people are on their 9th or something insane like that. I'm not buying myself a 360 because I know I wont be bothered constantly sending it off for repair.

The new ones are fine. I've 'only' had one failure, which is the same number as I had with the 'very reliable' Xbox 1. So there you go.

Closer to home one of my friends' got her first 360 recently and it didn't last a week. I can't be bothered with that at all, I'm quite happy with my PS3.

Ah, didn't realise you had a PS3, thought you were holding off buying a next gen console completely because of it... so fair enough!

How is that fine? You have 'one failure' and so could 10,000,000 more people.

Also I had NO issues with my XBOX. It was quieter and a hell of a lot more sturdier. It felt like todays PlayStation3.

One failure with a launch console, btw.

I don't know how anyone can claim that the 60GB machines are 'fine', they've been on the market for about three weeks, there have been a few faulty ones already, but who's to say what they'll be like in a year's time? After all, every other bloody revision was supposed to fix the problems weren't they?

I actually think the problems are unfixable, and without a complete redesign using different components entirely we're still going to have these problems.

Our problem as consumers is that the've got us backed into a corner, if we want to play their games (which we do) we have to do it on their machine.

I don't but Motorola phones after I had one break, same for Acer and HP laptops, I wouldn't buy another Renault after my Clio went tits up inside 18 months, no more Belkin routers either. Our problem is, that no-one else can offer us the same things that the 360 does so we have to stick with them.

Come on, let's be honest here.

This is no ET; the Game, is it?

Because it'll have dead good graphics?

Microsoft have never said that. Falcon was more of an exercise in cutting production costs. MS have always denied that there is a specific design fault causing the RROD. To announce a hardware revision as a solution to poor reliability would be an admission of culpability.

I've waited for ages to buy a 360 and whilst I'm less optimistic about Jasper than I was, full disk installs should help cut down on mechnical failure and the 65 nm GPU should keep everything a bit cooler.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I keep my old XBox under the tv for playing original XBox games & dvd's - there's no way I'm gonna use the 360 for anything other than 360 games due to the reliability issues - I wanna sustain it's life for as long as possible.
I wouldn't've thought twice about playing PS1 games on my PS2 (though admittedly both of my PS2s have given up the ghost where PS1 games and blue PS2 discs are concerned) or dvds/cds on either.

And maybe the company has learned from the negative feedback they've had on the 360 - RRoDs, loud disc drives etc.

And the flammable cables from the original Xbox? And the 360 steering wheel?

I was thinking the base unit itself, they can learn from other things later as long as they get the base right.

Exactly, 360's are actually being fixed, not buried in the desert!

I've just discovered another gaming strawberry float up.

Wii/DS games.

They just never want to stand straight on the shelf. And are intent on tipping to one side. :x

Dude, Wii games are DVD cases. If you can't get those to stand up straight, then neither will your DVD's. Use a bookend, like everyone else.

I wouldn't say it's 'the biggest strawberry float up in videogame history' surely SEGA and Atari did more stupid things?

Just a shame the best games are on a console that is so unreliable.
