Riiiiiight.

I was thinking exactly the same.

One would note that Nintendo seem to be doing alright over that in the long run ..

However, it did take 3 generations, for most of which they were kept afloat by the handheld market.

I dunno. Most of their 'failure' consoles did make some profit.

I'm not sure this is the biggest strawberry float up in videogame history but it is rather sizeable.

I also recently noticed how the 360 abuses the game discs.

 Just perusing my brothers catalogue of games and every single one of them is scratched to strawberry float, it's crazy. PGR and Gears won't play first time you put them in the tray.

They lost huge swathes of market share, though, which would have eventually let to a complete abandonment by both third parties and retailers had Nintendo not then stepped in with the Wii.

I seem to have beeb quite lucky as I've only had the RRoD once and I've had a 360 since launch.

It is the only console I've ever owned that's died though, even my 20 year old NES still works.

I have never owned a 360 but it disgusts me at the amount of breakdown stories I've heard. How are MS allowed to get away with this?

Makes me want to keel over when I hear people are on their 9th or something insane like that. I'm not buying myself a 360 because I know I wont be bothered constantly sending it off for repair.

A very interesting read. Microsoft made a catalogue of errors and paid a hefty price but,...

...as always, it's the games that keep consumers coming back for more, not Microsoft.

The new ones are fine. I've 'only' had one failure, which is the same number as I had with the 'very reliable' Xbox 1. So there you go.

I guess I'm one of the very few lucky ones. Almost 3 years later, and I'm stil on my first 360. No problems with it, either. I didn't get it at launch, mind, it was about a month later at the start of January. Must've been a good batch.

Closer to home one of my friends' got her first 360 recently and it didn't last a week. I can't be bothered with that at all, I'm quite happy with my PS3.

I am glad they are fine. My new 60GB managed to last 4 days 2 weeks ago - I expect with the "new motherboard" I should get a whole week. I shall look forward to that.

How is that fine? You have 'one failure' and so could 10,000,000 more people.

Also I had NO issues with my XBOX. It was quieter and a hell of a lot more sturdier. It felt like todays PlayStation3.

Reading that article it does sound like they should be in reasonable limits now. Certainly the 65nm process will make a massive difference. I've noticed my 60gb is much cooler, which will make a big difference. Some, like Judoscar, still got naff ons but it does sound like an exception now (i bloody hope so).

Hopefully this will mean those who want to enjoy the gams can now without having to worry.

Makesme laugh that the most indignant are not people like me who were effectively bloody Beta testers at launch (can't say i'm happy about that), but those who'se brand loyalty means they'd never own one anyway

You could just be really strawberry floating unlucky though? as it doesn't sound at all common for these 60gb's in general.

still, maybe you are right and 100% of new 360's will fail every time, even now.

I did die a bit inside when I saw it as A: you didn't deserve that and B: i knew we'd never hear the end of it

Crickey how are people breaking controllers? The abuse that some of mine have taken is untrue, one of my friends has repeatedly thrown the controller down on a wooden floor after losing games. (Which happens a lot and if it did break dont worry he would buy a new one)

I got my new 60gb on Friday & I have to say it's much more quieter, cooler & generally quicker than my old 20gb model.

I find it very hard to believe Judoscar's comments, unless of course he's putting the 360 on top of a sub woofer/mini fridge.
