Just watched episode 7 last night and hated it. The city and gang looked like they were out of Robocop or something.

What is this "fly" episode you're all talking about. I can't seen any episode called "fly" or "the fly".

There is an episode of Breaking Bad called “the Fly” which people seem to either love or absolutely hate. It’s similar to The Lost Sister in that it divides the audience and also that it is completely out of tone with the rest of the show.

Watched episode 6 last night, the ending of that was ripped straight out of aliens even down to Burk (spelling?) Being sat there  Just needed someone to shout "LET'S ROCK!" And start shooting.

Homage ;)

But yes the cameras, tunnels, guns and editing reminded me of it. And I loved it :datass:

I second the 'just another superhero' show sentiment. I hope it doesn't go in that direction.

There's a quote out there from one of the Duffer bros saying something like "Yeah we love Ep 7, without it the whole ending doesn't work!"

Image

EDIT: Found the whole quote

Our test of the episode was we tried to pull it out of the show just to make sure that we needed it because I didn’t want it in there as filler — even though some critics are accusing us of doing that. But Eleven’s journey kind of fell apart, like the ending didn’t work, without it. So I was like, whether this works or not, we need this building block in here or the whole show is going to collapse. It’s not going to end well. The Mind Flayer is going to take over Hawkins.

Yeah, no.

Eleven needed a character arc, otherwise what? She goes to visit her mum then comes back and saves the day with her magic powers. Episode seven gives her an arc (she interacts with the wider world and realises her power but wants to put it to good use). It's clunky and sticks out like a sore thumb as its own episode rather than a second-string story, but storywise yes it does make the ending work better.

I get that, I'm not saying the series would be better if it was aired as-is just missing Ep 7. There were a million and one ways they could have rounded that arc off that wasn't an X-men episode featuring The Warriors. Eleven's entire arc was a giant misstep as far as I'm concerned but that's another debate.

Just watched episode 7

The only useful bit of it being 11 is shown how to harness anger to move big things.

Great article on episode 7.

On their first morning together, Kali urges El to “find that anger. Focus on that. Not the train, not its weight. I want you to find something from your life. Something that angers you.” I’ve found my anger. I’ve focused it. And even the power of my anger at this wasted opportunity of an episode and its vaguely insulting way of portraying chosen family couldn’t drag the derelict train car that is “The Lost Sister” more than few feet. Certainly not all the way from Hawkins to Chicago and back

Just watched episode 7 and didn't like it at all. Well bar the music. Glad to hear the rest of the episodes are back on form!

So, Jonathan, how was the pull-out?

Yeah, that made me laugh.

I've finished with Season Two last night and I thought it was very good, but personally I preferred Season One. I agreed with the most of you about Episode Seven, it was a bit weak and, yet it made sense for Eleven's powers.

Just finished, really enjoyed that. I didn't find episode 7 particularly bad, even though it did very little to move the story on. Series 1 was also very good, but I think I preferred this slightly.

Yes?

I enjoyed the series, the music was fantastic this time. The only criticism I have is it wasn't really creepy enough, and it lacked an air of conspiracy and paranormal that the first did. There's nothing revelatory about it, apart from the concept of a virus, that was nice. There was also no real loss of characters you feel bad for, and there's no human nemesis, just a universally "bad" monster you don't see enough of - I guess I'm saying, it lacks amoral characters (aside from the kid hunting down and killing her "doctors").

I'd like to see something a little more apocalyptic but on a local scale, no idea how they'd play that out without it being a cliched cheese-fest though. Overall I think they handled a second season right with good characters, but a little incongruous-ness in the limp energy department and "version 2" feel of the monsters.

Finished season 1 last night, absolutely loved it

One question I have:

At the beginning of the first episode when Will is on his way home there's a man/apparition in the road that causes him to fall of his bike, and this figure slowly follows him home and through his house - is that the demogorgon? It looked way more human than the monster but it didn't get another mention so I'm guessing I'm mis-remembering?

It’s been over a year since I saw it, but I would assume that it was the demigorgon

Finished season 2 last night, enjoyed it but not as much as season 1

As everyone has said episode 7 sticks out, badly. The only thing I liked about it was it had music from Escape from New York in it.

The other thing I really disliked was dart in the final episode. strawberry float off dustin I wish it had stayed in character and eaten you

First of all strawberry float you for hating on Dustin :x

Second of all Dart did stay in character, Dart loved nougat and Dustin from the start.
