I am looking forward to this, but I do hope it doesn't outstay its welcome.

This. I don't want this to become some long running show that keeps going well past it's best.

Get in, tell a good story and wrap it up. Three/Four seasons should be more than enough to manage that.

I don’t think they can continue it much further, the kids are going to look way too old soon to be able to carry on with it.

I'm guessing they might do one set in the future. Perhaps the 90's with the kids now a bit older and still in a decade with some nostalgia and fun music/clothes. Anything in the 00's would be pointless as they are pretty dull. decades.

That's just because we're not far enough away from the 00s yet

Apparently this was the original plan for the second season (and no doubt a reference to IT), but the cast of kids proved to be too popular so they nixxed it. A shame as the second series was something of a re-run of the first, and all the more disappointing for it.

I hope this is the last really, unless they figure out a way to shake things up. The first was excellent nostalgia bait but the second added nothing and gave us only that awful 7th episode and its attempt to set up an expanded universe.

Exactly. So it would be pointless doing it set nowadays as I doubt anyone who watches Stranger Things will have any "feels" about the '00s. If they did I'd be shocked, and a little intrigued as to why.

I was happy with just one series (though I did enjoy the second)...

Tell the story like a 9 hour movie.
You think they've won and are all safe.
Then boom, kids coughing up Demogorgons and gooseberry fool. Fade to black.

It's the same with Killing Eve. It doesn't need a 2nd series, but alas, they are.

For us it isn’t that it hasn’t been long enough and more because we will never feel much nostalgia about that period.

I was a young kid in the 80s and a teenager in the 90s. Both of those periods have fond memories for me. I was an adult for the 00s and 10s and so I am never going to feel much nostalgia for them.

I’d imagine current 20-25 year olds look back fondly on the 00s and we will end up with shows catering for that nostalgia as that generation get older.

I liked the second season and am happy there will be a third.

But they could have easily turned it into an anthology series. Season 2 could have been some kids in California in the 60s finding out about the Upside Down. Season 3 could be British kids in the 90s etc etc. Different stories, different casts, different time periods but with the Upside Down and/or mind powers linking them.

Why do you think I'm playing Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu right now

Because you are 11 years old?
