Really liked the season finale.

Call me naive but I didn't see Hopper 'dying' coming. I expected someone from the main cast to die and wouldn't have been surprised if it was one of the kids.

I reckon the Russians mentioning an American prisoner at the end is a bit of a red herring, and it's Matthew Modine who they have locked up, who they're forcing to help with opening the portal. Hopper is trapped in the Upside Down and next season will be focused on Eleven getting her powers back to rescue him.

I do hope the next season is the last, because at this stage it does seem like the threat of the Upside Down has completely run its course.

Yeah I think Hopper is still alive, if you don’t see somebody die or see a body it usually means they’ll be back

Neverending Story.

This season it's really really obvious that the actor who plays Will is a few years younger than the others.

I watched S1, but never got round to S2. Can I just pick up at the new season? Sounds like the last one was a real slog, so I don't know if I can be bothered catching up.

I don't think that's fair on S2, it wasn't as good as S1 but I wouldn't say it was a slog, it was still very enjoyable. I would say you do need to catch up either way.

Fair enough, I'll give it a go. My partner didn't really enjoy the first season, so I've got to somehow find time to watch it on my own.

There is one truly awful episode in S2 just to warn you...I think it's episode 7. You could (/should) pretty much skip it and read the wikipedia synopsis instead...

Just to demonstrate my point, I googled "stranger things season 2 episode 7" to check I'd told you the correct episode number and the first google result is an article titled:

Everything that's wrong with Stranger Things season 2 episode 7

I would give season 2 a watch, as it would explain some of the plots in S3.

Including the German pornstar lookalike, Max, etc.

Season 2 is good, not awful. Nothing could really beat season 1. Only one episode is a stinker.

Anyway S3 is very good.

S1>S3>S2.

Haven't seen S3, but I thought S2 was pretty good. I even liked the much hated episode that everyone is talking about.

I get why people didn’t like that episode, but I didn’t hate it. It just felt out of place.

Well that was pretty variable. It's amazing how unrecognizable it is from the first series. The character flanderisation after less than 25 episodes is incredible.

Ok start, strong middle, awful end. Too many characters. Too many characters that are completely superfluous/unnecessary (you could cut Jonathon for instance out entirely and it wouldn't change anything). The kids continue to be unbearabley unlikeable (Max, Eleven and Steve excepted).

Unless I missed something episodes 4-8 all happen on one night?

The Russians are unnecessary and a complete misstep. The kids wandering into this base was a joke. Hooper/Joyce doing "Carry on Undercover" was shockingly terrible. Also there's absolutely no way the Russians would have been able to build that base undetected. Never mind in 1980s when they were close to ruin.

What as the point of the coded message? To tell them about the shipments they knew were coming?

We never found out what the Green stuff, that's both highly acidic and powering the key, is right?

Dustin continues to suck massively...but they made him look slightly better by comparing him with Erica. The most unlikable person on TV in a long time. I don't get why they needed her. She added nothing to story and could easily have written it differently.

Lucas and Will stop (from looking for medical supplies to help their wounded screaming friend) to have a 5 minute debate about a fireworks display? Jesus just kill them all Billy...

Saw some people liked the Duet in episode 8, but I thought it was jarring;y out of place - especially intercut with the kids being hunted [by the slowest moving creature in history]. It's a brave move to undercut your dramatic climax like that - and it didn't pay off here.

Surprisingly, after my dislike last year, Max was one of the better things - mainly her interactions with El (isn't she Jane now?)

I could go on and on...it's a real shame cus I thought for the first few episodes they were building to something but then it just becomes too farcical.

Erica’s the most unlikable character on TV?

I swear I must be watching a different show.

I liked that episode but it did feel a little out of place and unnecessary in a show with only 8 episodes per season.

Just started S3ep5 and so far this season seems to be on a par with S1 in terms of quality.

Is the actress who plays Robin old enough for me to have a crush on her?

Edit - Yes, she's 21.
