Do you know what, i was actually considering it the other day, but for the hassle it is worth it is not worth setting up, and some places have simular things in effect where you can rate games.

That seems like a fairly comprehensive list to me actually. I enjoyed Resi 4 but it wasnt as good as Metroid Prime. IN fact yes, Metroid Prime should be in the top 10 somewhere. But apart from that I like it as unlike the usual american crap (im looking at you, IGN) it has quite a few British games as well as the Speccy. And when was the last time you actually saw Elite in a top 10 list outside EDGE?

Stuff is a magazine that normally posts pictures of girls in their undies, therefore any list about gaming they could possible come up with is automatically void. I mean I saw Civilization as the 63rd best game of all time.

Final Fantasy 3 for the NES!? Should that not be Final Fantasy 3, for the SNES?

anyway, the list has some diverse titles i wouldn't have expected them to come up with, i bet they googled top 100 lists and put them all together or borrowed ideas!

That's the problem, it is literally like someone read two or three Top 100s, then asked a couple of employees to remember utterly obscure childhood favourites and inserted them randomly.

Still, Top 100s are always terrible.

One voted for by Gamers would be intresting, I.e. a massive sample of the marketplace, but knowing our luck it'll end up being EA sport jocks!

GAME did it. It failed mostly.

Good list, mixture of the old and new, the obscure and the usual suspects. Shows the people who picked it are actual gamers.

Super Metroid and Resident Evil 4 are far too low and Half Life 2 isn't that good.

Lack of Conker's Bad Fur Day is also a fail, if only on a personal level, but I thought it would have fit their readership.

CoD4 was number one. :fp:

The problem is that these polls generally turn into a list of favourite games rather than greatest, mainly due to the blurring of genres making it difficult to judge games accurately. Metal Gear Solid and Super Mario World are both great games for instance, but what criteria would you use to set them apart and decide which is better?

Yeah i agree.

It would be interesting to read what you guys would have in your own personal top 100.

God I hate mags like Stuff so much, but its not a bad list I've seen much worse. Nice to see a good number of classics made it on there.
Was it voted by readers of Stuff or the staff?

I think if we were to ever compile a top 100, something for A.I. perhaps, then there needs to be a distinction between favorite and greatest.

Maybe if everyone got to submit 10 games, their 5 favorite and the 5 they believed to be the greatest. That way you'd get a nice rounded list.

It's fairly obvious what favorite means, but greatest? I'd probably suggest that would involve having an impact on the industry, doing things new and differently (and being good) also how it was thought of at the time and how well it stands up today.

For instance Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door is one of my favorite games ever, probably in my top 5, but I couldn't really justify calling it one of the 5 greatest.

Hmmm

Top 100's are ridiculous. There's just too many places to fill, leaving too many opportunities for appalling decisions. Does anyone remember Total Film's Top 100 Directors poll, where Sam Raimi was above Michael Curtiz, Fellini, Ken Loach, Milos Forman and Almodovar. Just a shocking decision. Lists should never be higher than 25 and they shouldn't have such broad titles. I find it would've been better if this list was made up of several smaller ones, Top 10 Platformers, Top Ten Racers etc.

The ultimate aim of any game, regardless of genre, is to entertain. Therefore I would judge all games against how much they entertained me.

Still very difficult. How do I compare how much Dawn of the Dead entertained me compared to Lost in Translation? They're entirely different experiences, so to judge them as arbitrarily as 'how much was I entertained' would be nearly impossibl.

Vice City is my favourite game ever but it is in no way the greatest. I also suggest some sort of World Cup......

...with me
