DKC2 race was decent, 1 second separating first and second. Just a shame you couldn’t really appreciate it because there was no highlighting of who was winning.

Also the runners just look bored. GDQ is so much better in person.

yeah it definitely is - i was hoping this one would be, but now even the summer one seems unlikely to be either!

Deathloop Any% was pretty crap. Seems an odd choice to show off the game like that at it's first GDQ. 25 minutes where you barely get to understand the games systems or the characters but instead spend most of the time in menus or trying to clip through walls to skip anything interesting.

I get why these Any% runs are a thing and they are impressive in their own right. It just seems a dumb choice for this game at its first and now probably only GDQ. I can't imagine anyone will be inspired to pick it up off the back of that.

I mean these types of runs can be interesting from a technical point of view, but generally speaking I'm not a huge fan of them.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be shown or that they're bad, they're just not my cup of tea.

There's a difference between using glitches/bugs to speed-up how you play the game and just breaking the game so badly that you're essentially avoiding the whole thing. Like those OOT runs where they "complete" the game in 5 minutes or something ridiculous like that.

But yeah I've not seen any of this so far, but gonna watch these next couple I think, starting with MGS 2 (Tanker Blindfolded).

Oh it's not in person this time? That sucks. Less likely to be cringe moments.

Yeah speedruns that are just crazy glitching or manipulation of the game behind the scenes are really interesting and I quite enjoy watching separate videos where people go into detail about how they work and what is actually going on, but they always feel like a poor choice for a "spectator" show like this.

Pokemon randomizer is very fun - the 3 runners and host are just chatting absolute nonsense and its more like a skype call than a run

Watching the RE Village run from the other night. I think it's one of the most impressive things I've ever seen at a GDQ. If you've played Village on Village of Shadows you know how strawberry floating impossibly hard it is. To do it from a new save file, with no upgraded weapons, using no glitches I would have thought was borderline impossible just from a resource and boss damage perspective. The skill the guy shows is absolutely nuts. Insane accuracy and speed just constantly for 2 hours. Truly remarkable.

Back to in-person events from June!

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2022 ... -this-june

Looking forward to that. Something about it being online just felt like switching between random Twitch streams. It being an actual event makes it better I felt.

I guess this one will be breaking a lot of records. Be nice to watch an audience again and have participation.

Oh god yes. The announcers when they read out donations especially make me want to hit something.

Links Awakening race was really good.

One to check out when the VOD goes up.
