I've decided to finally do something I've talked about for years, and get an alarm that simulates the run rising in an attempt to give myself a more natural wakeup while the mornings are dark.

Does anyone have any experience and recommendations? Ideally I want something where I can program each days wakeup time individually.

Also, what's your wakeup routine? Does it work for you?

You do this with hue light bulbs, bonus is they are also normal lights and that well so can be used normally too.

I don't use it but a mate of mine uses his as a going to bed light thing too where over 3 hours or something before he goes to bed they gradually shift like a sunset to sort of gently move into sleep time.

I have two cats who wake me up like clockwork. I also have the heating set to come on as a warning half an hour before the cats start crying.

My partner kicks me when it's time to get up. No, really.

I’ve got a Lumie sunrise/sunset lamp. My old bedside lamp broke and needed replacing so I decided to invest in the Lumie.

It’s excellent. The half-hour sunset is very relaxing and certainly seems to help me get to sleep. The sunrise is largely pointless during summer, but really starts to help around this time of year, when it’s still dark in the morning.

I set mine so the sunrise peaks 15 minutes before I need to get up, with the (quite unpleasant) beeper switched off, then use my phone alarm as the actual GET UP signal. Because of the sunrise, I’m usually nicely and naturally awake before the phone goes off.

Only downside is that I can’t set the sunrise for different times, but Lumie say this is intentional because you should get up at the same time every day. Also, you can’t use it as a regular lamp to light the room for long, as it automatically switches off after an hour. Probably a good thing, to save the expensive bulb.

Same here except every 2-3 hours, regardless of the time of day!

The cat comes and sticks his paw in my mouth at about 8am, which is a pretty effective alarm clock.

I have a nice, quiet alarm that shuffles a playlist of Joe Hisaishi's Ghibli scores to ease me in, and then an obnoxious one 10 minutes later to actually get me up.

I get up when I want, except on Wednesdays, when I get rudely awakened by the dustman.
I put my trousers on, have a cup of tea, then think about leaving the house.
I feed the pigeons, sometimes feed the sparrows too, it gives me a sense of enormous wellbeing.
Then I’m happy for the rest of the day, safe in the knowledge that there’s a bit of my heart devoted to it.

I have 3 alarms on my phone set half hour, quarter of an hour and 5 minutes before I start work. I begrudgingly snooze the first alarm twice before getting out of bed and then go for a wash.

Life is a struggle.

I have an alarm clock FM radio beside my bed that has neither been used as an alarm or radio for YEARS.

I now just use the alarm function on the iPhone. It plays a gentle jingle rather than the abrupt sound that an alarm clock would.

Sunrise alarms are great. We have a Phillips one. It definitely helps me when waking up in the dark due to the gradual nature of it.

My routine is a combination of sunrise alarm plus 6 other alarms set in order. Plus two cats, one of whom will jump up on bed the moment any noise is heard on the morning. I'm not morning person. :shifty:

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.
