Good work :toot:

I need to do a Luigi play through to really say I've finished the collection, but I'll save that for another time.

Now where the hell is galaxy 2 Nintendo :capnscotty:

What's different about a Luigi playthrough (not played Galaxy yet)?

Luigi controls differently. Faster and jumps higher I believe.

That's about it though.

He also slips a little when stopping, making precision stuff trickier

He really is a slippy bugger  and does make certain parts harder. Pretty sure it takes him just a little longer to start moving too. His speed and jumping do make some parts easier although its worth noting that you race against a Luigi so those stars are probably harder.

It is basically the same game all over again though. SMG2’s postgame was so much better.

Played 64 and Galaxy at the same time all the stars on Galaxy except for the Luigi run and got 100-something stars on 64, which was basically as far as I could get without looking at a guide or skipping some of the stars I struggled with or that were just a bit rubbish. I think there's a bunch of hidden castle stars I'm missing. I will go back and get all of them at some point as I never managed to as a kid.

Edit, I’m not saying it’s terrible of course as it’s still a good game but the little things like the silly extra step Mario does when he lands just annoy the hell out of me, even more so when you’re moving upwards on narrow (ish) platforms.

I am a bit aprehensive about going back and playing it now though as it is so heavily criticised. Loved it back then though.

Couldn't get into Sunshine. Never owned it and only played it a bit back in the day round my friends house - so I was quite excited to play a 3d game I basically hadn't played and I'd already had some affection for Delpfino Island from the Mario Kart tracks. The controls and platforming which is usually a 3d mario games bread and butter are a bit hit and miss - its cool to be able to hover but Mario feels a bit slower and less agile and just not as fun to parkour around than than other Mario games, the water mechanics don't also seem to perform as they should and some of the platform sequences could be pretty frustrating. I've only played a few levels but there are bunch of sprites I would have liked to skip but often can't because you have to get to specific missions before the final area of levels open up. I love the island and it is cool to have such a rich hub world and its looks beautiful in 1080p but I don't like the cut scenes (seemed out of place in the opening scene when Mario is sitting next to Peach in a tranch with heart shaped eyes, also the slow voice of the water pack). Theres a bunch of sprites that are gained from collecting blue coins .

Worst Mario of all-time. 9.5 / 10

In terms of movement and controls it's Odyssey > Galaxy > 64 for me. I really liked how fluid the spin felt with a flick of the wrist and wraggling the controller for star bits. 64 Marios movement isn't great in the underwater sections and is sometimes impeded by the dodgy camera angles.

Actually I kind of wish they would have just polished 64 a tiny bit. I wouldn't want a full remaster; but they could do better than 720p in 4:3 ratio with 30 fps. Also it would be cool if we could control the camera a little with the right analogue stick.

Honestly though - how difficult would it have been to remake SM64 using the Odyssey engine?

I’m starting to really hate the platforming levels (well the ones where FLUDD is taken away from you) in Sunshine :(

I know I’m not being patient enough with them but they’re still doing my head in

Edit, managed to do the first two levels non FLUDD levels thank goodness, I really wasn’t being patient enough :fp:

Edit 2, finished my evening on 19 shines, up from 10 when I started, approx halfway through the 3rd area of Isle Delfino. It’s just a bit annoying, a lot of Sunshine is great but the few bits that are bad just let it down a lot for me.

Edit 3, more frustrations :fp: Sunshine is such a conflicting game for me, when its good its really good but a few of the sprites just annoy the hell out of me, most recently the sand bird one. It really wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t need to get most of the shine sprites from each area to finish the game as you could just skip these levels and make up for it elsewhere in the game but you don’t have a choice but to get through the poorer stages :(

I'll be starting Sunshine soon now that I've dusted Mario Kart. Kind of hesitant to a degree, but as I've said before I remember very little about the game so hopefully it's the lingering spectre of its reputation clouding me on it.

For someone who was new to it when 3D All-Stars released, I'd say you've got nothing to worry about. Sure, there's a few hard bits and the controls are a bit iffy, but I still enjoyed my time with it.

I think it's just the prospect of the blue coins.

Sunshine was definitely the game I enjoyed least out of this collection, but it wasn't a bad experience!

I just ditched the idea of going for full completion - I got as many blue coins as seemed fun and then moved on.

If I were that way inclined there's a couple of stars I could quite happily have left in SM64, alas...

Been playing more of Bowsers Fury, really enjoyable although I don't like how often Bowser appears

PLAY | Persona 3 Reloaded [3h]
WATCH | Ted Lasso S3, HiJack S1, Red Dwarf S4, Dexter S2

The worst part about Bowser's Fury is the Fury of Bowser. It's too frequent, and the game runs like total ass when he pops up (especially in the wasteland area).

I liked it overall, but I honestly think they should have just stuck the islands into 3D World as individual levels.

Finished Bowsers Fury now. That last few shines to 50 was a pain because Bowser was constantly there and because you couldn’t always seem to see where he was firing from it made things a little frustrating.

Just need to mop up the remaining shines now. Wnd fight was a bit meh
