Got to get this. My partner has never played Sunshine (which I loved), I can barely remember playing 64. I remember owning Galaxy but I can't actually remember playing it!

Day one for me. Its just so frustrating they aren't putting in Galaxy 2 so that we have all the main games in the series on one console. It's kind of inexcusable really, a bit baffling they didn't do it.

Also don't get why it's only a limited time release. It's gonna be a pretty big title, almost a must have for Switch owners.

I remember Sunshine was a bit disappointing to me as there wasn't a ton of variety in the levels as it seemed to ditch the usual Mario tropes of snow, desert, lava levels a bit. But really keen to play it again as it looked beautiful on the trailer and the special stages were the ground work for Galaxy and a lot of Odyssey.

Galaxy will always be amazing. It felt to me like the perfect modern interpretation of the old 2D games. Pure platformer, and done with such perfection. :fp:

If Galaxy 2 had a different name it wouldn't be ignored so much

And I say that having never played it

My expectations on playing this:

I think that 64 will objectively feel the most limited of the three now but will hold up incredibly well due to nostalgia and I will have an absolute blast playing it again.

Sunshine will reinforce my belief in the things it does that are brilliant whilst simultaneously reminding me of some of the gooseberry fool that I've either forgotten or chosen to overlook in the intervening years

Galaxy will still be exceptional though will lose some of the shine/wow factor compared to playing it on release and I think revisiting it will also strengthen my belief that Odyssey is the better game.

What were everyone’s issues with Sunshine? I can’t recall having any problems with it but I never finished it

I think Galaxy 2 couldn't be released for legal reasons.

Yes, but motion control for galaxy require joycons.

You sure? a lot of motion control games on Switch have the option to turn off, Breathe of the Wild has it for example.

Otherwise I'm going to look like a complete tit on the Train to work. :fp:

Sorry, I worded badly but confirmed my understanding in another reply to dual - joycons give additional functionality but the games are playable with a lite.

Not all motion controls can be turned off in Breath of the Wild, like the gyro shrines

Yours, a tit on the bus to work

I always thought sunshine was one of the weakest games, I didnt like fludd and the best bits were when he was taken from you.

There are some major camera issues so im hoping these are fixed.

P.s. i know mario64 camera fails a lot but is forgiven as it was the first 3d title

Sunshine's definitely the weakest 3D Mario, for me at least. Uninteresting theme/levels all feel similar, annoying characters, forgettable music, FLUDD is frustrating, and the best bits of the game were the bonus levels where you're basically entirely removed from the main game and all of its mechanics.

See I don't subscribe to the 'fluddless levels are better' thing. Go and play them now, they're not the platforming masterpieces you remember, they're often frustrating as strawberry float with wonky platforming spoiling things. And that one where you have to pick a guy to throw you in a random direction and just hope you land properly :dread:

The levels like the harbour are much more satisfying to play.

Rico Harbour or Noki Bay are probably my favourite areas with Bianco Hills and Gelato Beach also being great

I might be in the minority, but I definitely enjoyed the secret levels more than the main game. I remember wishing the whole game was more like that. I haven't played them since I first completed the game, so I can believe they feel a bit crap now, but then so do some bits from Super Mario 64 and (to a lesser extent) Galaxy. I might give it another go on Dolphin and see if my view changes. In my head it's all so samey and forgettable, genuinely can't recall the level names or a piece of music from the game. :slol:

I disagree, I played it last year and while the camera remains frustrating I still loved the fludless sections

I think the Fluddless sections are great to be fair, there are a few stinkers like that pachinko gooseberry fool but overall they offer some great platforming. But there is plenty to love in the main game as well.

Who's saying that? They're all brilliant, it's only sunshine which has a few duff moments.

Yeah at worst you have got one game which is only great and two others which are absolute classics. It may not be the super complete bundle of remakes that would have set the world on fire but it's still a great offer
