Finally got this through the door. Booted it up, felt all nostalgic and went into Mario 64 - I hadn't realised they've not even stretched the resolution to fill the screen :fp:

Looks like it really will be my Christmas game :toot:

I gotta say, Galaxy is the weakest of the 3 imo. It's so linear and dull in comparison. There's also a million more animations and cutscenes to sit through which just makes it more tedious. As a kid I thought Galaxy was easily the best of the 3 and I can't understand why. Maybe it was just the novelty of the gravity mechanics.

Will go back to Sunshine soon and try to get 120 as well.

I am not a machine.

Wedgie is. :shifty:

Anyway I just played like ten-fifteen stars per session and it was how I finished it easily without felt any pressure to finish it very quickly.

That was my plan too. Got fond memories of Christmas 2007 so why move forward with my life when I can wallow in nostalgic melancholy.

Curse this godless heathens here for basically reducing Christmas to Starbucks merchandise and shopping mall decorations. What holidays has Buddha ever given us?

Finished Galaxy with Luigi at the weekend.

The camera on the purple coin missions really exposes how this game is incredibly linear. During the main missions, the camera is largely fine but when you have to explore, it goes all over the place and makes some of the coins feel rather cheap.

I preferred Luigi’s move set as it allowed you to solve some problems on your own rather than the pre determined way Mario’s move set leads to.

It’s a great game and I do prefer it to Sunshine and 3D World, but I think the more sandbox games, suit Mario’s move set a lot more.

It’s also a crime that we haven’t got Galaxy 2 in this collection. I just want to give you my money Nintendo, make it happen.

Gonna give up on Mario 64 now, sitting on about 35 stars.

Beyond the initial nostalgia this really doesn't hold up - playing Ori at the same time on my xbox just reinforced how far platformer have come with design decisions that don't unnecessarily rack up the playtime and increase frustration.

Started galaxy yesterday and played it most of the day on and off. It's so good.

I'm stuck at a point where I need more stars to go to the main upstairs area but I can't figure out what to do in the level with a big submarine in it and I can't find the buttons that activate any of the boxes after the flying cap one.

I don't want to use Google because it's dirty cheating but if anyone happened to throw a hint my way on GRcade that would probably be cool :shifty:.

On the submarine one - the entire level isn't underwater.

Caps - for one of them search the basement, it's not as obscure as looking at a light to get into it's level like the wing cap level.
Can't remember the other one right now. Might be in a level, someone will be able to confirm. EDIT: Just checked, it is.

Metal cap - It's in the mine level.
Vanish cap - Search the basement, and remember you have the butt slam move.

Well, I said I’d start this on Christmas Day so I’ve just loaded it up! With all the other stuff I’ve now got to play I’ve no idea if I’ll complete any of them 100% (except maybe Galaxy ) but I’ll definitely be seeing the credits on each of the, at least!

I finished off the Mario play through of Galaxy yesterday, meaning I've got 120 stars on all 3 games now :toot:

Shame nothing about the collection changes for doing that. Even just a title screen change would have been nice.

I've had around 30 minutes on SM64 now... and I'm enjoying it!

Can I get 100 coins in BOB right off the bat?

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.
