I've got an article talking of how Bowser's Fury could be our first introduction to a fully open world Mario adventure, with a bit of a look at how that could appear.

Check it out and see if you'd enjoy such a concept.

Enjoyed those musings! Though I think a world the size of BotW filled with the kind of dense design needed for platforming challenges (compared to the vast swathes of rideable, run-able, climb-able surface areas in BotW) would be rather a lot!

It does make me laugh the people who say they don't like the more open Mario games, then are gushing over bowser's fury and saying how its a look at a new type of Mario game, when it's largely the same as a large world on Mario odyseey

I don't like open Mario, I like 3D world instead!

Here's a Mario odyseey world rebadged mini-metro style in to 3D world.

I love it! Is this a new way to play mario?!

Play Mario odyseey, you'll love it!

NO! I don't like open Mario games, I like 3D world instead.

Thanks for reading. Yeah, I think a map the size of BotW would be asking too much. That why I only ever mentioned the size as part of a caption. Maybe two of the larger sections at most, or maybe double the size of the Great Plateau, depending on how much verticality is featured on the map.

I don't like Sand Kingdom. It's a course that's rough and irritating and there is too much empty space everywhere. Not like, say, a Banjo-Kazooie level.

Odyssey is already an open world sandbox game. It would be a right pain in the arse to traverse the worlds if they were all connected. I don't see a legit design reason for them to do it.

Anyway, I think I'll take a punt on this so I can have some fun with my boy during lockdown. £49.99 is bloody expensive but I guess Bowser's Fury sweetens the deal according to the reviews.

The physical stand-alone game has dropped by £10 at Amazon UK - it’s now £39.99.

Anybody know if Nintendo tweaked the speed of the platforms and camera movement at points to match the faster characters because at points to me it really doesnt feel like it.

I broke and bought this. I want to play Mario. It was 40 quid on Amazon. I own it on Wii U. Shut up.

The bowser part of bowser's fury is really starting to get on my nerves.

Mid game spoilers:

Now the novelty of him kicking off has long worn off, it's just a pain in the arse to do the trickier stuff when he appears, because all he does is breath fire at you, and if you're doing some proper platforming there's nothing you can do to avoid it. I've ended up sitting at a shine and waiting for him to activate, collecting it and then getting it so he strawberry floats off. I wish once you'd beaten him at the 50 shine point, he'd either stay away entirely, or modify in some more interesting way.

The Bowser stuff also began to annoy me on the harder sections, especially Roiling Roller Isle and Mount Magmeow.

I've finished it completely now so I never need to go back to it and let it annoy me again. :toot:

How often does Fury Bowser actually appear? Sounds like it’s more frequent than I thought.

Hoping to get the rest of the 8 standard worlds (currently mid way through the 6th) done over the next couple of days and then I’ll be jumping on Bowser’s Fury.

Seems like every 5 minutes now, it's getting pretty tiresome. It puts you off just exploring as if you're out on the water, you're limited in hiding places, if you're engaged in a tricky bit of long platforming, he'll ruin it. So I'm either sat waiting for him to kick.off to then immediately pick up a shine so he strawberry floats off again, or avoiding something I want to do because he'll show up and make it really frustrating.

Somewhere between 10-20 minutes, possibly closer to 10. He's only around for about a minute before disappearing, though.

Sometimes he's around for a minute, sometimes he just stays until you manage to get a shine.

Is that so? I'll have some fun when hunting for those remaining shines, then.

I’ve not even played it yet but that seems like it’s far too often to make it a unique event after the first few times.

The quickest way to get rid of him is to kill yourself (Mario, not you).

That's certainly one way, and with no lives, it makes no difference anyway.
