I haven’t touched Bowsers Fury yet either. Up to the end of World 4 with all stamps, stars and gold flags. My daughter has been playing Bowsers Fury via YuZu on my PC and she’s loved it so far.

I'm almost done with World 2, just need to find the last start on the boss stage.

I'm taking my time as I'm really enjoying it and don't want to burn through it. I've never played a Mario like this, it's like an updated Super Mario 3, and I really enjoy the difference of this to the more open 3D Mario's.

I'm hoping to actually beat the final level of 3D World on this version. That was some hard gooseberry fool.

I never beat it on the Wii U either, that was the only thing I didn’t do (well that and beat every level with all 5 characters), if I can’t do it with Luigi this time I might just switch to Rosalina as I seem to recall she made things a little easier.

It's so good isn't it?

I definitely agree with Dunkey in that I can probably appreciate this more in a post-Odyssey world, the exploratory-Mario itch having been scratched. It never appealed the first time round (though probably because I thought it would be more like a more 3D New Super Mario Bros, and I don't like that series), but now playing through its more fixed-angle feels like a relief; you can focus on fun and play and movement instead of looking and framing. It also gives things a kind of toy-set, diorama feel.

And it feels nicely wacky (like, good wacky): knockabout and surreal, and with movement that feels great (I was worried it would be staccato like Galaxy) - I don't really miss the Triple Jump! And the music bangs.

Also: I just 100%-ed Bowser's Fury (or Super Wind Waker Odyssey World). Performance dips (plummets) aside, I thought it was fricking brilliant. Moreish and playfully loose and constantly surprising. I also thought it was bigger than folk made out (at least, to 100% it) - there's plenty here and it all feels so diverse. And whereas 3D-World feels wacky this feels properly bizarre, almost unnervingly weird in how committed it is to the Cat theme, but that just makes it seem all the more oddball and eccentric.

And I didn't mind the Bowser-ing so much, even by the end. Gives the whole thing an interesting rhythm. And again the music bangs.

If they do release Wind Waker HD this year it'll feel slow compared to the effortless hop-on-and-off, always available, seamless Plessie-riding.

As a double-package, that includes both top-tier linear and open-Mario, I'm wondering if it might even best Odyssey overall... But I think I'm getting ahead of myself! High on the newness! Let's see!

(But it's so good).

Thinking about it, this feels like the middle step between 2D Mario and Galaxy - rather than on a branch that would lead to Odyssey. Also makes me think about Galaxy in a different light than I did before.

And I agree, I'm glad I played Odyssey before this. I loved Odyssey, but I might have been disappointed in this if it existed in a world where Odyssey couldn't scratch that open-3D itch.

The same will happen for people with Skyward Sword post-BotW! I just know it!

(I hope)

So how long are we looking at to 100% bowsers fury? I loved 3D world on Wii U, but have played it in the past 4 years, so some extra incentive to pick it up is required.

I’m guessing the speed boost is not enough by itself? Also I did not 100% it on Wii U, so there’s that also....

You're looking at between 6-8 hours, I would say.

Still only dipped my toes into this, the kids have been having a blast with it though!

Love that 1-2 carries on the tradition of having a warp pipe to another world!

Finally got to try this out for a while with my cousin today. As brilliant as it looks, I think I'm gonna be in the super minority when I say that I'm not a big fan of how much faster it feels now. Played up to World 5 and I just couldn't get to grips with handling some of the movement as I kept over shooting and speeding past things too much. Almost felt unbalanced in areas. Totally get it's something you will naturally adjust to tho. This is specifically main game too, BF felt fine because the levels were designed around the updated speed.

I’m not sure what it is but I seem to be having some issues with falling off the back and sides of the world when I make big jumps, like it’s hard to Jude where you are on the screen or something

Loving this though, I think it’s possibly my favourite 3D Mario game
