Missed the Direct as I was still dicking about on Twitch and lost track of time, but just caught up now and wow this looks like it is going to be amazing!

Really like the sound of some of the new features, particularly the new themes and the curve-ball of the moon theme - can't wait to discover the effects it has on various things! Being able to combine lots of elements to achieve different effects sound like it could have plenty of scope for discovery as well.

I'd still recommend watching the Direct when you get the time though. Some of it looks amazing.

So there’s clearly another Extra Game Style coming. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them announce it June 8th at that event. Or perhaps it’ll be DLC.

Possible candidates:
SMB2
Super Mario Land
Paper Mario
Galaxy

If it's like 3D World, which contains mechanics and elements only for that game type that cannot be switched to another style, then they can do anything. SMB2, Mario Land, Wario Land, Odyssey. Anything. Gonna be good.

One little thing I noticed at the time, but no one has mentioned was the "Super Famicom" logo that popped up when Mario jumped into the Car. No idea what that was about.

If they do another Odyessy game, Mario Maker 2 DLC based on the first would seem like a good way to generate hype in the build up.

I noticed that too, and quite a few people on Resetera were commenting on it as well. Bit odd.

Clearly still stuff to show for this. Treehouse Live is going to be interesting!

Also, did they mention a world map maker being included so you can tie a series of levels together?

I too would love to know these!

Why not watch the VoD? It's only about 10 minutes long.

I'm at work so would prefer to read a list rather than watching a video. Quicker to read, too.

Multi directional scrolling
Angry Sun from Mario 3
New sound effects
New music from Koji Kondo
Snow, forest, sky and sun themes
Two player creation
Online multiplayer
Story mode with 100 levels
Online leaderboards
Mario 3D World is a special set contains a car too
You can create challenges within your levels
Oh and a night theme with a moon

Don't forget the moon (until you unlock the night level seperate) changes things, gravity in sky levels and underground is upside etc

Thanks, you guys

I totally missed out on the first Mario Maker, but I'm expecting good things from this.

There's so much extra content in addition to that feature list too, like transparent pipes, moving blocks and all sorts. It's a monster

One thing I will add, is that for those who never played the original, don't expect the 100 Nintendo made levels to be traditional "proper" levels.

A large portion of them will be short, showcases for enemies, mechanics and styles. It's not like they've packed a full additional 2D Super Mario game in here.

This is my worry. After watching the Direct I might have to get this game, just because of the sheer amount of potential; but given that my creativity doesn’t generally get directed towards video games, I’m still not sure and I still don’t know how much I’ll get out of it.

Looks fan-bloody-tastic for the rest of you, mind.

I only made around 15-20 levels in total on the original and I played hundreds of hours on it. There's plenty of great community made levels to play, so even if you're not big into the "making" part, there's still plenty to get your teeth into.

Did you play the 3DS port? I remember reading that the levels they added to that were actually really good.

I've got it, but to be honest I didn't really play that much of it. There were performance issues with some levels that put me off it.

But you have to pay to share online so strawberry float it. Also 2 games for £85 LOL

You better have a Switch and you better be getting this.

I'll pay for your bloody sub myself if I need to.

 Thanks. TBH its more principle of paying to share levels. Bloody Nintendo. :fp: Bad enough they want to charge people for an online service thats worse then they use to offer for free. Be interesting to see how the commenting on this compares to the Miiverse stuff of before.

I know that I keep banging on about it but, for me, the creation controls are critical. Building was a breeze on the U version and - even though the possibilities look terrific in Maker 2! - I want to hear more about how the analog stick controls handle in the creation process... and whether the stylus method works well. For me, this aspect is a make-or-break point; if the building controls are smooth and fluid then I could imagine pouring hours into it, but if they're clunky then building may be a chore.

This.

I can't imagine the building process being bad, but I never played the Wii U version so I have no frame of reference for what that was like.

From all the shots the buttons and controls on screen all seem well placed and large enough to hit reliably and the placements of elements within a course is all based on a fairly chunky grid system so pixel perfect precision is certainly not required. It may take some adjustment, and working on stuff with a controller may prove interesting, but I expect they'll make a good job of it.

I’m in love with this already! So much new stuff in there! I also can’t wait to be a part of Master Mario Maker again :D

I can vouch for the 3DS Version’s built in levels. I barely did any building/user course playing on that one and can wholeheartedly recommend the game. Each level had a few challenges to pass which made the game really challenging.

I mean, there are some games I would prefer to own digitally (for example, Animal Crossing) so the fact I can get them for a normal price and not the stupid digital prices makes me happy.

Meant to watch this last night but by the time I remembered it was over

No plans to currently to get it mind, enjoyed the first one but never loved it. Sounds like this one looks great from the reception on here though! Not even got an online subscription yet so no idea how much of this would be cut off to me if I did get it.

Just caught up with the Direct, and blown away by it really.

Not too interested in making my own levels, but the sheer amount of options looks staggering, and can't wait to see what people come up with. Day One.
