Because... that... feature... is... why you wanted it? Is this a trick?

Imagine having a close-knit group of friends you buy games together with specifically to play together online. Madness.

Its that this is such a unique game, it baffles me that that particular feature would be what drew anyone to want to play it.

Design your own Mario levels to share with anyone (including your Friends)? Nah Mate, not at all interested.

Be able to play those levels with Friends? I'm 100% in.

Doesn't make sense to me.

Unique in the sense that they literally put out one of these already not that long ago, sure.

I don't get why you can't make sense of buying a game specifically to play with friends. You must surely be trolling.

But in case you're not:

Being able to play SMB/SMB3/SMW with my friends online is all I cared about.

Even by Nintendo standards, the lack of friend support for online is *yikes*. It requires such a baffling set of decisions.

Are we looking at the same footage? Switching wheels looks pretty damn fast, and making a selection within a wheel looks to be instantaneous.

It looks to be a similar kind of system that the Switch version of the Scribblenauts Double Pack used and I never found that as slick as the Wii U's touchscreen version.

Tbh, I suspect that folk who haven't used the U version will find it to be just fine but, for those who have, it could seem a little clunkier. Or... maybe it will just take a bit of getting used to. I hope so :-) .

Seems a real shame you can't play co op multiplayer with friends online, but it isn't enough to put me off - I feel like this is the big Wii U game I truly missed out on last gen. I've pre ordered :toot: And now I'm going to read all the AYAMMM threads.

A lot of the streams will be on the YT channel as well. Not all of them as I was a bit spotty with transferring them over, but most of them I think are there.

Just to confirm... this still has local co-op right? As in I will be able to play levels with friends as long as they are in the same room as me?

Yes but once you've registered that friend to that room they are tied to that room only and can't be played with in any other location.

Imagine being told you need to pay an online sub to share levels. Imagine being told you need to pay an online sub to co-op but can never do it with friends. Imagine that its still 2019.

Oh wait you don't have to because that's the bizarre stupid land Nintendo live in still. Buying the game just supports Nintendo's insane choices and says its ok to still be doing this. When perhaps.... its not.

Of course the game still has a lot to offer but for some they might feel they would rather spend there money elsewhere.

I wasn't interested in the slightest in the idea of multiplayer levels, but I can still see it's a terrible implementation of that concept and I totally understand why people who liked the idea are now very disappointed.

Hopefully they might patch it later, but then Nintendo are pretty stubborn once they make a decision like this, so I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm not sure if we already knew this, but it has been confirmed that the game won't feature the mystery mushroom / amiibo functions (i.e. play as other characters) that were in the U version.

I struggle to think why this is the case; the Switch obviously has amiibo capabilities built in and it was great fun in the original game. I fondly recall the themed characters courses that we made in AYAMMM!

I'm feeling a bit grumpy about how Nintendo are handling some aspects of the new version. It remains interesting and I will undoubtedly still get it but... yeah, I'm grumpy about it.

That's a disappointment. But I'm still buying the gooseberry fool out of this. Not really that big a deal.

I'm starting to feel like Nintendo are being a bit more cutthroat with meeting their release schedules. The Wii U suffered from many slippages and while Fire Emblem and Yoshi slipped from 2018 to 2019, on the Switch they have been meeting their release targets pretty consistently. However, it's possible they've had to make decisions in development on performance/features to do this, for example:

Arms and Splatoon 2 were light on content on release (although I appreciate this is the model for the latter)
XB2 really struggled performance wise in handheld mode
Mario Tennis was lacking significant features on launch (although they've worked on this post release)
Super Mario Party only had 4 boards
Yoshi's performance had room for improvement (resolution etc)

Now Mario Maker 2 seems a few key features light. If you look at H2 release schedule for 2019, it's absolutely packed. I'm sure they didn't want to push MM2 back by a few months and June was the latest they wanted to get it out.

I know the big titles such as Mario, Zelda and Smash didn't really suffer from this but they will have the biggest budgets, and it's possible they sat on the first two after they were completed to meet preferential release dates.

Eurogamer got a piece on the no Online MP with friends debacle.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019 ... th-friends

Apparently its because they don't want co-ordinated teams to dominate the leaderboards......

That's either a spokesperson making gooseberry fool up, or it's the most moronic reason I've ever strawberry floating heard.

Now only locally co-ordinated teams can dominate!

I bet this will have hacked 9999999 score leaderboards week 1.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Well thats one of my fav little features gone. :? Even if the Amiibo craze has died down having them as something to unlock would be very welcome. And with all the extra elements added I was thinking of how much better it would be at mimicking other games.

On the other hand it'll make Stay Deads level 99% more tolerable.

Yeah Mystery Mushrooms being gone sucks and it's the final nail in the coffin for any hope of pre-existing levels being playable.

I seen someone comment somewhere that it's a potential avenue of DLC for them. :dread:

Yep, making up excuses. Because there's a simple solution to that issue-have two leaderboards-a with friends leaderboard and a with randoms leaderboard. Sorted. Pretty much what they did with Splatoon and Ranked v League.
