Random revelation based on something said in the direct.

When talking about the Moon and Night time it said that once you unlock it, you can have night-time without having to place the moon in a level.

"Once you unlock it"

We're gonna have stuff gated behind gooseberry fool aren't we? Either the story mode or the way it was in the first game where you had to use all the new items and place a certain number of blocks to trigger the next delivery.

Can't be arsed with that. Really wish there was an "Unlock all elements" option to get straight into making proper levels.

Pretty much everything bar 100 levels meant to inspire. I'm hopeful that Nintendo are being a tad bit more ambitious with these pre-made levels though - in addition to the same kind of one-and-done ideas that were in the original, a thorough exploration of how all the new mechanics interact with each other in more fully realised levels would be pretty neat. And with 100 of them this time around, I'd hope this would be the case.

Yeah, good shout, I recall waiting in the original game to unlock elements of the creation tools and I wished that I could just use them right away. I guess that the Story Mode may be a method of teaching the use of objects and then allowing them to be accessed in the creation suite... but I kinda hope not!

Just a thought, CD - do you think there's value in allowing us some time to learn and "get used to" the new game prior to the AYAMMM? competition starting? It feels like we would benefit by several weeks of "playing around" before we start to create in earnest!

There's gonna be at least a full month between release and me even considering starting any contest. You'll all have plenty of time.

Dont really mind unlocking things but it depends what they lock away from the start. Why they thought not being able to use the Mario trail at the beginning mystifies me. :fp:

Apparently there is a "like" or "dislike" option for levels. :nod:

I'm going to take so much pleasure in voting down all the music, autoplay and stupid art levels that always seemed to be at the top of the list. strawberry float off with that pish. Hopefully I'll be able to filter it out, but if not I'm going to town on that gooseberry fool.

This could have easily been an easy port but I'm so happy they went above and beyond with how much more stuff they are adding. This game is legit going to be wild.

I just caught up on the Direct and I'm very impressed with the new content that has been added. Things like day/night are great additions to the game in themselves but the 3D World theme is fantastic because it really feels like a 2D version of 3D World.

I am tore between the SMW theme and the 3D World one on which to choose to make stuff in!

Really looking forward to giving this a proper go this time round. This seems to have a lot more opportunities to create different types of levels (puzzle aspects for instance) than the last one.

I assume this will be fully supported after launch with more content and features being added.

I think I will switch between all the classic themes. I'm not super into the 3D World theme, but I'll definitely try it out for the unique features!

I've played more - far more - with Mario Maker than with any other Mario platformer game; probably combined. The building tools offer just the right balance between ease-of-use, speed and complexity; making courses is a delight.

I hope that the "Super Mario Maker" title screen speech remains on this newer version :wub: .

I suspect I will play more than I make, I love game creation tools and have spent plenty of time in the past creating maps and levels for things back in the day - I remember spending a whole summer creating a "campaign" for Half-Life! But I do tend to find I lack the skill and/or inspiration to do anything truly great and so end up spending more time playing the creations of others than my own.

That said I am really looking forward to having a play with all these features, just don't be too surprised if my entries to any possible AYAMMM are levels shaped like penii or copies of W1-1! :slol:
