Not entirely sure I like this, controls seem odd and making it seem really awkward, stuff like spin attack I just can’t seem to do it reliably and can’t move where I want with any degree of accuracy. It a usual issue have with 3D Mario, it always feels a little loose.

Haha typical, I find a groove just after saying that. I was trying to swizzle the controller but it actually just needs side ways for spin, that is not what the animation shows!

Anyway once I sorted that I wasn’t as clunky, I still find it a bit inaccurate when on tree leaves and things but hopefully I can work with that. Looks friggin awesome.

If you have the joycons in the grip, doing that spin is as easy as quickly twisting the controller to the left a bit.

Superb game, I got every moon and I could happily start again and get them all over again.

The controls are bad ad7. It's not that Errkal is crap at it ;)

I did find the way Mario controlled a little fiddly at first. It's obviously part of the challenge as if he was exactly 1-1 then navigating the worlds wouldn't be half as fun. Took my a while to get used to it, but once it clicks it's great.

I started playing after a year away and immediately hit the New Donk City musical number.

Controversial take: ending musical number > New Donk musical number.

On the grip I worked it out and it was fine I was playing handheld which really isn't easy for that move.

I'm not epic with mario style controls but I'll get there, it is a awesome looking game and I'm not too gooseberry fool at it so far so yay :D

I think I played half of the game in handheld mode so I barely touched the motion controls.

I think climbing and a couple of the possessions are the only bits where they really help. I was likewise a mostly handheld player, and it didn’t affect my enjoyment too much!

This. Comfortably (!) my favourite game ever.

Not really contro, they're both truly excellent moments. I personally agree with you but I can see the argument for the reverse.

Yep both the New Donk Festival and the ending number are incredible moments in gaming, two of the absolute best gaming experiences I've had in years - as is pretty much the entire game to be fair! :toot:

The controls are also phenomenal, just moving Mario around in this is an utter joy.

I really, really want to go through the whole thing again but there are so many new games that I'm either halfway through or are sitting on my backlog...

The New Donk City musical number was one of my favourite things about the game. That level is just excellent.

Made it to the wooded kingdom, water one is probably my least favourite so far, it felt a little like I was just bumbling about but all in all this is a marvellous game.

I still maintain it had DLC which turned in to a full blown sequel

Like a Mario Galaxy 2 scenario, I could go for another game with 10-12 kingdoms (I would still like kingdoms based on other Nintendo IP’s like Hyrule Kingdom)

Exactly. I dream that there's a sunshine kingdom coming but instead of separate levels, you can wonder the whole island at once :datass:

Isle delphino is even on the odysee globe

It's worthwhile having a spin/shake with most Cappy possessions to experiment - there's some (great, satisfying) stuff in there that isn't flagged up in the controls when you first capture.

I can't remember which things are/aren't signalled but the Seaside's purple-water-jelly sprinkler, the fish spin attack, the Luncheon Kingdom's fire-glob screw swimming, the hammer-bro-throw flurry etc. are all motion-control-musts!

P.S. I'm in the Ending Song > New Donk song camp - that was a brilliant surprise and a great track!
