I'm shocked that you like something Nintendo related.

All this talk of a new Mario game, made me realise I actually haven' got past World 3 on Mario 3D World.

Finally put some serious time in tonight...and actually it's quote good. Not sure why, but I never really liked it, but I'm on World 4 now, and it seems to have stepped up a gear. Plus I then went back to some other worlds to complete the stars, and they levels really are great!

OK this is kind of a big deal

I saw an analysis video of the Mario game speculating that due to the lighting it could be running on UE4.

I've never quite understood what Unreal 4 engine is...why is it good if it's available for Switch? Surely Nintendo builds custom engines for their games...they wouldn't want to pay fees to licence something, they can probably build better themselves...

Well it means that PS4/XBO/PC games that run on UE4 can be ported to Switch, unlike the Wii that missed it due to not having UE3, or the Wii U not having UE4.

So the fact that Switch can run Unreal 4, does that also mean its pretty powerful - does Unreal 4 have a minimum spec to work?

Absolutely zero chance that major Nintendo titles will be running on anything other than their own internally-developed engine.

Seems unlikely that Nintendo would licence UE4 for Mario...I guess anything is possible.

UE4 was always going to work on this though, its been working on Tegra devices for years.

So how does this Tegre perform compared to Wii U?

Its difficult to say.

Most would say that the Tegra X1 as it exists today is probably squarely between the last gen console and the newer consoles, for example it'll run stuff like Doom 3 BFG at 1080p 60fps (fair to say however that putting last gen games at 1080p 60fps is the top end of what to expect out of products already out there).

However the Switch will have a somewhat custom Tegra chip which in theory should be more powerful, it also shouldn't be hampered by having to run through Android.

One thing you can be sure of, it should be by a distance the most powerful mobile gaming platform ever made.

To be fair the PS4 and X1 can barely get last gen games running at 1080p and 60fps.

Pro and scorpio won't though. I find it hard to believe a handheld will be anywhere near the ps4 in terms of raw power.

Honestly, this basically seems like the wii u but in reverse and portable technology.

Lastly, the ipad is a widely accepted piece of hardware - i doubt switch will be when the ipad can already do what it does.

Can't remember iPad having console like games available for it. Well not many anyway.

Absolutely love my iPad. Would never dream of playing games on it. Well, I've tried a couple. It was gooseberry fool.

Been thinking about this but surely the Bowser levels in SM64 are this? Maybe not as advance but still an attempt?

I don't think so, they are less linear than the other stages but they are still quite safe compared to the void levels in Sunshine. I never once felt like Super Mario 64 was the original Mario in 3D, Mario World? Maybe a little but Sunshine's void levels made me feel like I was playing an old school Super Mario Bros game in 3D.

Why go to the effort of making a fake and then give Mario such a gooseberry fool name?
