It has, not I’ve got use to the how it controls it’s much better, still get a few frustrating moments where you have to go over a thin path or whatever but most of the time it’s good fun. If anything slightly easy which feel odd for me to say, I’m not sure how happy I would be with it if I had played full price for it considering how fast I’m blitzing through it.

How fast you think you're blitzing through it.

It took me 65 hours to get 100%

That because you did 100% of everything, I’m not so it makes it quite short as once I’ve unlocked the next area I pretty much move on as hanging about when I don’t need to tends to bore me.

That said I’m going to go back to a few areas maybe so I’m sure I’ll get more play time from it.

If you're just speeding from a to b then you can't complain the game is too short. It's comfortably the biggest Mario game.

I’m not complaining as such, but I do think if there is more to do it should be part of the main story stuff not a bunch of extra stuff you go and do if you want.

From the sounds of it the story is like 25% if the game which seems wrong, the main gnaw should be 75% with some extra gubbins but to have most of the game optional seems daft.

You have to decide what you want from the game. Do you want to play Mario? Or do you want to see all the big set pieces and finish the story? They're both valid, but represent very different experiences of the game.

You only have to get a fraction of the game's moons to see the finale. Just like Breath of the Wild, it's up to you to decide how thoroughly you want to explore.

Yes, it's a pretty easy/quick game if you're just trying to 'finish' it and not trying to get every moon.

But I can't see why you'd do that. I did go through the story pretty quickly myself, but always with the intention of going back. Not at any one point have I felt like it was anything other than tremendous value.

I'm deffo going to back to the city, the beach and a couple of other areas to see what more I can find, so I will probably cha he my mind, but I dunno I feel that a game should be be mostly the story and not other stuff, extras are good but it shouldn't be most of the content.

Generally I don't do well with games and I have to stop early because of getting stuck or whatever so the main story is for me the most important bit.

As you get stuck, having a shorter easier story with a more side content would actually be better suited to you as you can get through the story easier and then do the side stuff up until your ability lets you. Wanting the story to be longer with more content in it, would mean more difficult moons included in it and then you'd more likely hit a brick wall and not play most the game. You're outlook is backwards imo.

While this is correct, the couple of morons people I know who didn’t get on with BotW played it in a straight a-to-b, minimal exploration manner. People say there’s no wrong way to play a game, but I’d say that ‘the wrong way’ is the way that means you’re least likely to enjoy it. I hope that the straightforward way isn’t that for Errkal, but if he(?) gets to the end and feels short-changed I his experience, it probably was...

If this was an average game then I could get behind the A to B approach... but this is a once in a generation game with shedloads of excellent, memorable content. I can't grasp why anyone would want to rush through this and deprive themselves of a truly incredible experience.

I certainly didn't rush through as quick as possible, as I had plenty more moons than needed to get through each level, but I also never got close to 100%ing the game. Like the koroks in BOTW (and even the shrines to be honest), the Moons in Odyssey seem designed to be missed. There is plenty of repetition in type, and trying to collect them all to me made the game more boring and took the shine off the fun of just bumping into things as you jump and bounce around. The levels are most fun when you first enter them and moons are popping left, right and centre. Once you pass the threshold where you're no longer just running into them, but actively searching for them throughout an already explored level, that's when I always decided to move on.

Mario's move set and the free-form platforming is the real star of Odyssey for me. Moons were just there to give a little reward kick, a way for the game to pace each level and say "you're doing good, keep playing!". My strongest memories (outside of the big story set pieces) aren't of acquiring moons, but just of pulling off some crazy chain of platforming to skip over a section, or reach a place it felt like I shouldn't (but clearly could).

BOTW was the game that finally broke my compulsion to 100% a game no matter what, and Odyssey really enforced that. The option is there for people who want it, and that's all good, but I think the most common experience they are designed for is not that.

Bingo. I'd say that the flexible structure of Odyssey and BotW gives more people a bigger chance of seeing more of the world instead of implementing more stringent gates to the late game content.

To be fair, my main criticism with SMO was the ‘bittyness’ of some of the Moons. The fact that they were so ubiquitous, and could sometimes just be found by kicking a rock about, made every Moon feel like less of an ‘event’. I wish there’d been a Red (SM64) or Blue (Sunshine) Coin equivalent to replace some of them.

That said I really did like exploring the levels. It’s what I’d been waiting for ever since SM64’s sequels started getting more linear.

I loved the game. It was just that post game that made me stop. It was exhausting.

I prefer the Galaxy games. They are a lot more focused. Where's my goddamn remaster Nintendo?
