I absolutely agree with this. Kart 8 *is* great but, yeah, you barely notice any difference in the anti-gravity sections; it's not until you spot the vertical sections in the pre-race camera pan that you realise they're actually there.

This is an interesting observation. Aside from different stats/bumping into players for a boost there isn't much difference, and changing the camera to better reflect your orientation would be cool. However I can see the gimmick wearing off quickly and being visually obstructive when I just want to play the game. And in a game about memorising tracks, it would only serve to put off newcomers. Though having said that, some tracks already have some wonky angles that impair vision, so maybe just ignore this post lol.

Thinking about my GOTY this year, when I think what game provided me the most fun this year, this is going to pip TOTK for me. Absolutely loved my time with it and I still want to go back and do more of it.

Finally finished the main game on this today.

It's not especially difficult is it? I was hoping for some kind of Champions Road, really challenging world, but nothing.
Oh well. It's the only real blemish on an otherwise immaculate game. Loved my time with it and I'm hoping for some DLC or even a new Mario Maker that utilises the mechanics.

Everything is pretty easy bar 4 levels, 3 of which are still pretty doable and 1 of which I can't do

I've still got a handful of levels to unlock and I've not even considered 100% it yet, but I doubt I will. Got other stuff from this year to catch up on and finish.

Well it does basically have a really challenging Champions Road esque level if you do go for 100%

Good to know. I might go back to it next year at some point and mop everything up. Got a backlog of games from this year I really want to tackle.

Still have FFXVI to go back to, then both Armored Core VI and Baldurs Gate to properly dig into. Lots to get out the way before next years big games start coming.

Loving this. But quite far in and I've only accessed one special stage (climb to the beat one) and would have expected to have opened more by now.

I have 100%ed every level I've played (all purple coins, seeds, top flag pole and cleared whole worlds). The next level I have access to (in the centre of the special world) requires 6 special seeds to unlock but only having access to one special I currently only have 2 special seeds.

There's paths on the perimeter of the special containing levels world that converge in the centre and I would have guessed you access from the outside by completing worlds. But so far not. Do they become available at the end after completing the main game or something? If so not sure why I was able to open one earlier in the game. Thanks

Look through your level list and you'll see that some don't have a checkmark despite being "100%ed". You'll want to investigate those ones again...! :D

I played about 3 hours of this and I don't have any motivation to return to it. I mean it's... fine, but I really expected the level transformations to be more exhilarating / fun than just wacky.

I do enjoy the talking flowers though, so no regrets.

Sorry to read it's not quite clicking with you yet Kaz.

I do hope you stick with it, but where's there's some games I'd say 'carry on, it gets better', whilst the best is yet to come; 3 hours in you have a pretty good taste of what this game is about (you don't have to plough through super easy levels to get to moderately challenging one's (but probably not the 5 star one's yet), you've seen the map, some of the more wonder seeds are quite early on and you probably have a good feel of the overall game). You're not wrong the wonder seeds can be a bit hit and miss, some being more spectacle than exhilarating gameplay.

If you're fundamentally not into 2D Mario, the wonder seeds alone are unlikely to change this for you. Enjoyed the new Mario Bros games but knew they could be better camp here. For me, in terms of how it looks, plays, attention to detail and creatively this is everything I could hope for a 2D Mario. Weird is the theme with this game and I love it. Nintendo apply changes to 2D Mario so incrementally, but they've really done a lot to refresh the formula here. Wonder seeds are of course the most obvious shake up, but I appreciate what they've done with the map, the expressive little stretch-and-play-dreamworks-style-character animations, level background details etc. I'd also say take away the wonder seeds and the base conventional levels are still more fun than the other 2D Mario games.

A great reply as always Barnsy.

I think you summed it up neatly when you stated that is you are not in to 2D Mario, this won't change your view.

The last (truly) 2D Mario I played was SMW (one of my favourite games of all time). I had hoped that this would somehow revolutionise the format, and some of the well regarded outlets suggested something similar. For me though it has not done that.

I will probably do a few more hours at some point (maybe this Xmas :toot: ), but right now I am not motivated to see what's next.
