A new Monkey ball has been rumoured for almost a year now. The original announcer has teased a project a number of times on his Instagram page as well. Rumours were it was going to be a collection of SMB 1+2 featuring new, extra content.

I would be down for a new title, hopefully an announcement is right around the corner

As long as I can play Monkey Target I'll be happy - so many great memories of playing that with mates at uni.

Disgusting (but just as well if Monkey Ball is dead)

It's literally just super monkey ball, even down to the washing machine backgrounds from 2. Granted, I'm sure there are some new ideas in here but still, it looks like a 1:1 copy for the most part. But it's also a good thing if Monkey Ball is dead, hence the bracketed comment. At least the game is still alive even if just under a different name.

I'm not optimistic. The first game is a bonafide classic but every game since then has been crap.

The second was better.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I mean, I guess you could argue that some of the minigames had been improved slightly. But the single player mode was an absolute travesty. It became less a game of skill and more learning which switch moved which platform.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this is the correct opinion, and the other ones are wrong.

SMB2 had some very fun mini games, but the main game was too often about fluke or guesswork.

SMB1 was genuinely about skill; you felt you could beat any level here first time with (sometimes insane) skill.

With SMB2, too much was about trial and error instead. The rest of them increasingly followed the mini games route or gimmicks.

A good 90% of my time playing Monkey Ball was on multiplayer Monkey Target, with the rest probably being on Monkey Golf. I barely touched the "main game"

I don't wish to reignite a bitter, near 20 year old argument.

But, just call it Super Monkey Ball Multiplayer Minigames Madness, or somesuch in that case.

It's like if everyone said, I know Halo was good, but Halo 2 should essentially not worry about that, and just be a load of Rabbids style minigames.

Absolutely fuming that you had lots of fun.

Super Monkey Ball Deluxe was the best as it combined 1 & 2 content with a couple extra bits throw on top

I am going to have to disagree with this. It pains me to do so, but it pains me worse not to do so.

I understand the thinking that more is better.

However, if you mix up a number of perfectly crafted levels with a number of lesser hit and hope ones, that totally lessens the experience.

Plus, the analogue sticks of the PS2 and Xbox weren't, at that time, good enough to actually deliver it properly.

SMB2 was a muck spreader of badly poo'd out ideas, which banana blitz then made almost pornographically poor afterwards. We may never be reconciled on these points.

And this might seem like an argument from the past, but anyhow.

Good day, sir. And I hope that your family enjoys a fine harvest.

The only monkey ball I've played is the one on the eyetoy Sega superstars game, and I enjoyed that, so I'd happily give a new game a go.

SMB is a really tight, concise, well crafted set of levels. With a lot of practise most players can reach Master. 9/10

SMB2s levels are quite bloated in comparison and playing through them sometimes seems more of an exercise in patience. The minigames were an improvement over the original though. 8/10
