Thanks Corazon and Pedz! Mass exorcism it is then. Robotnik wasn’t too bad, I just dropped a fat crocodile on him.

It only took me two shots tbf, I just couldn't be arsed after the first shot and needed a dark to balance Guile, which was a wee bit harder.

Tried King K Rool for the first time yesterday, and he's a blooming beast.
Guess I have a new main.

Are people actually enjoying World of Light, then? I'm playing through it at the moment because I'm leaving Classic Mode for co-op when my girlfriend's over, but it's a bit dull. The battles are either incredibly easy and over in 20 seconds (thanks to spawn-with-this-item spirits, even when I'm 3/400 points at a disadvantage), or impossible (trying to fight a 13,000 point character when the highest I've currently got is 8800 on a stage with those silly hostile assist trophies) :slol:

Does it ever even out?

Do you get stronger spirits from the core summoning system, too? I released a few duplicates for the cores, but in the summoning menu the only spirits I can summon want me to liquidise spirits I'm using.

I've only ever summoned one or two spirits that way, but they weren't anything special.

Mostly I've been evolving spirits at Lv.99 and then using their powered up form. Hades, for example, gets the Trade-Off Attack skill when it evolves, which massively increases attack power at the expense of 30% starting damage. That one had been a huge help for me.

3/400 points is nothing, near the endgame you should be happily taking on Spirits where you’re 4K points in arrears. It does even out: you’re meant to take those legends on later in the game. I didn’t, mind, and they were bloody hard!

I tried to like World of Light. Was pretty thorough on the first map, and considered completing it 100%, but around the time I arrived on the second map I was getting a bit bored of it and was ready to just drop it. But I ended up completing it later, as efficiently as I could, because I found out it's the only way to unlock different music for the menus. As much as I like the main theme, it gets boring.

To be honest I don't like the singleplayer that much in general. Classic mode seemed pretty good at first and is still probably the best classic mode, but the novelty of various unique routes wore off after a while. Some are cool but many of the ideas were lazy. Would have got boring regardless though. Doesn't help it doesn't feature a target test, and the Race to the Finish is not as cool as it was in Melee (I can't remember what it was like in other games apart from 64).

But the game has been worth it for the multiplayer alone and hopefully they continue to improve it, both locally and especially online.

I tried Squad Strike for the first time the other day and it was a lot of fun.

Whereas I mostly play Smash for the single-player, and I’ve not been disappointed. Granted, WoL probably isn’t as good as SSE: the platforming might have been naff, but the cut-scenes were funny. Not having cut-scenes in the ‘story mode’ of the biggest crossover ever seems like one heck of a wasted opportunity.

However, over the course of the Smash series I’ve wasted hundreds of hours on almost each game, just fighting CPUs either one-on-one or free-4-all, and WoL gives me basically that with structure and clever nods to Nintendo’s past. Classic, as Kriken says, is the best it’s ever been; All-Star has been gimped but it was always the worst of the available ‘proper’ one-player modes so that’s fine; and Mob Smash/Multi-Man/whatever you choose to call it no longer has a challenge for beating Century Smash with every character, so is instantly better.

Tangent: why does everyone have this golden view of Target Test? It hasn’t been any good since Mêlée, after which it became bland and homogenised.

I think World of Light is great. And while I loved Target Test in Melee and Stage Builder in Brawl, I'm not missing them. If anything it gives me a good reason to keep and revisit those games, while at the same time I like the effort they've put instead into developing new game modes. And I much prefer spirits to trophies!

But it's a celebration of games that literally just tells you the name of a game. Some trivia to go with the spirits (like it tells you for the characters on the loading screen) would go a long way to making them feel more worthwhile. Otherwise there's no point to get *another* spirit that gives you high-wind resistance.

You're just collecting stuff for the sake of collecting stuff, it's exactly the issue with collectibles in games, why is it somehow okay for Smash Bros to do it?

It's more fun?

I see where you are coming from, but it can vary in games, collecting all the orbs (all bar 3 amdy data went bye-bye  ) was great, collecting all the flags in Assassin's Creed was a chore and Borefest. I guess it depends on how much fun you have with the collecting.

I like how I turn the difficulty down and there's literally no difference in these 13,700 point opponents. POISON FLOOR (but it only affects you) STAMINA BATTLE (and you start with a 50HP disadvantage) ENEMY HAS BETTER DEFENSE THAN YOU.

It's just... don't people usually complain about Smash Bros being unfair because of the item lottery? This entire mode is unfair :slol:

Worst thing is I'm trying to do every spirit as I find them as I don't want to get stuck at the end with a couple left to find on this absurdly large map, but it just isn't going to happen :dread:

Does it ever explain the Final Smash meter, too?

git gud scrub

No those are genuinely hard. You can either wait to get better/higher level Spirits, or employ really cheap tactics. I went for the latter.

I agree with you about Spirits vs. Trophies too.

Incidentally I’ve just completed WoL (on Normal, apart from for the purposes of getting the Final Battle No Deaths challenge), and am still 250 skill spheres away from completing the skill tree. :dread: Does upping the difficulty actually change how many spheres you win? It doesn’t seem like it!

Glad you've got my back on the BIG ISSUES of Smash Bros

Need to try and remember where some of these battles are, then! Think I've almost finished the first map. I've unlocked all the laser gates, but I haven't done anything really in that powerplant section yet.

Unlocked the ability to play as the Mii Swordfighter too so I'm playing as myself trashing all these scrub spirits :slol:

Bar one or two fights I didn't really have much of a problem, though I didn't get every spirit. I missed some and ended at 99.67%

There's New Game+ which allows you to carry over skill tree, which is what I've uaed.

I did only need about 150 though, I just used "weaker" advantage team Vs enemies for higher reward so may be reason. But since NG+ is there you may as well do that anyway

WoL is certainly a chore at times, although it's remained compelling to me for the 20+ hours Iv'e sank into it. The map itself is fun to pour over from a visual perspective between fights and I'm pretty certain Iv'e claimed at least 90% of everything on it.

Including Galeem - who I can approach any time now that his barrier is down - are there really just 4 bosses on this giant map? Bit of a waste, especially considering certain SSE bosses, such as Duon and Tabuu, are relegated to being spirits.
