I’ve seen several videos of people dying to Thwack and critical hit at 0% today. I’m glad Three Houses has all my attention right now.

I guess he could be a banned character? I don't know if they do it in other fighting games, but I know the do in others, like Pokémon.

Not a big fan of his Down B though. It's hard to see the menu in the heat of the moment and stopping to read it leaves you wide open, so it ends up being a crapshoot more often than not. I've already lost two matches with Kamikazee on my last stock.

In some ways I think this is partially what makes it balanced. You can't move while list is open either, so it's not easy to just abuse it. I've accidentally used kamikazee once so far, but it didn't cost me the match thankfully.

He feels more of a campy character, akin to Robin, but in a much more fun way, imo. His moves are so slow and clunky without his spells, so he's pretty true to his JRPG heritage of standing in one place for most of the fight. But with his range, I feel like he can still be a little aggressive when he wants to be through clever timing and use. Had some great moments on stream last night, I'll try cut them down and make a compilation.

Getting a little bored of the Hero ditto though. I want to fight normal characters lol. I ran into a Pit who actually gave me a lot of trouble, and Pit is rather mediocre. But Hero is just so slow D: Definitely a mu I need to try more of, plus I'm probably just bad with Hero. Also found a Ness who had decent movement and combo mixups. Was funny as he'd pretty much be absolutely rekking me, but I'd bring it back with some crazy spell. All it takes is a solid read and a fully charged neutral B, and boom, dead at like 60. So crazy.

Which is absolutely fine. The competitive scene isn't Sakurai's lookout; Smash is made purely for fun and I don't like to think of him stressing over the impact new fighters might have on the meta. For those that do however, I'd tell them to moderate the situation themselves - if that means excluding Hero from competitive play, then so be it.

I'm sure nobody here think this way, but e-sports is not the centre of orbit here.

I understand the notion that a game is meant to be fun and played casually, and that the creators may not care about the competitive side, but not only do I think this is untrue these days for Smash, but I also disagree that just because it's meant to be fun, doesn't mean some form of balance isn't necessary.

In a fighting game (even a party-like one like Smash), if there was one absolutely dominant character that just negated all other characters in all circumstances, this would lead to rather stale gameplay quicker than if it were properly balanced. Furthermore, to those casual players who want to solely pick and play as their favourite characters, they're not going to find the game fun when they quickly realise their favourite characters are pretty much unplayable in a cast that features over powered characters. tl;dr, balance is still imortant even in casual games. Imagine if you picked a certain character and combination in Mario Kart and they just had 200cc speed, even in 50cc mode.

As for Smash, balance has been more prevelant than any previous game in the series. Patches have been more frequent, with more substantial tweaks and fixes. Before Ultimate was released, Sakurai even spoke about understanding the competitive scene in a positive light and seeing the merit in creating a competitive game. It was also clear that after the initial E3 demo tournament, Sakurai had concerns with the balance of the current build at the time. Even as recent as Hero, it seems as though they actually delayed Hero a little bit to tweak his MP system, presumably after finding it was too strong once they had finished the character. Other than that, the fact they even have what seems to be a dedicated balancing team, who now actually distribute patch notes (which is actually an improvement for Nintendo, would you believe?), also shows they must care somewhat about the competitive aspect of the game.

well sakurai may just leave the balancing to the rest of the team

Hero is legit dumb fun. I didn't realise how consistent Whack is, it's kinda painfully hilarious lol. Still trying to adjust with using the menu. The biggest problem is having to look away. I think an easy fix is having the menu appear above you so you aren't taking away focus.

Not sure if it is much interest to anyone but I have began a series of articles about Smash doubles for the Welsh Gaming Network. Expect more over the coming weeks.

Evo finals were hype. Leo bringing back the reset was wild and in the fashion he did it in was something else.

Been playing classic mode on and off since launch and finally completed it with every character (including Hero), first time I've done that since Melee. Loved the variety to the stages each time instead of fighting the same enemies, followed by Master Hand each time. Kept it interesting and was a good way to experience all the characters too. Surprisingly my highest score was with Dark Pit who isn't a character I'd ever have chosen without playing it. Need to try and get World of Light done next.

personally i found classic a little disappointing, im mean it was a good idea but some of the themes werent kept to and some of the bosses were underused

good idea could have been done better

Yeah I definitely think they could have improved it and some characters routes were better than others but it was still a big improvement on the Brawl/Wii U/3DS iterations which just felt really samey. If they were to do the idea again I'd really like to see each character have their own unique boss as it would have been a really cool way to include more variety but I can see why they didn't go down that route.
