I'm sticking to my guns. Waluigi it is! It seems to become a bit of a meme, Waluigi not getting an invite to Smash. I reckon Nintendo have cottoned onto this and will make his invitation the last big surprise.

I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong. Luckily I have a hat made of spaghetti, so it's all good.

Understandable. Not agreeable. I don't give two gooseberry fools about Master Chief and Crash is emblematic of a company currently being sued for institutionalised sexual harassment. Meanwhile Piranha Plant is the best new character this game and I mean that unironically.

TBH the Rubicon was already crossed when they introduced Cloud, a character who at that point had never had his game on a Nintendo platform. This has just amplified the effect.

I just don't see the issue with it transforming from a celebration of Nintendo to a celebration of videogames. Personal preference I guess.

I like the celebration of games aspect, it makes it more interesting I think.

It absolutely is. I can completely see where everyone else is coming from. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

(I will maintain that including characters from other fighting games and their original controls and making them more powerful with their original controls, when one of the big appeals of Smash is the accessibility of its controls, is daft even outside my personal tastes.)

If they were base game characters I might be more inclined to agree, but DLC is an opportunity for them to mix things up a bit more and really tailor the characters to fans of those games. And anyway, the roster is so big now, a few characters like that isn't that big a deal. Those characters don't appeal to me at all but I can see why they've done it.

Ryu is base game! And actually one of the third party characters that in theory I have less of an issue with (deep and abiding links with Nintendo). I just hate the execution.

I suppose, but then bringing everyone back was also their choice - and not a one I've ever been totally happy about, it must be said. I live for the new (Nintendo) characters and stages. (To be fair they did introduce the three new Nintendo characters I wanted most, even despite the small selection.) Also, Ken was base game.

Ken was an echo of Ryu though so was always going to fit the same mould. Yes, that and bringing everyone back was their choice but you can see the thinking. They wanted Ultimate to be the pinnacle and it will be the perfect send off for Sakurai. I can't see how they progress with the series now without reinventing it to be honest, so it'll be a good time for him to move on.

I think the fact that Sakurai is properly promoting this means it might be something cool like a double-drop or something, I don't know. I feel for him though, whatever happens people will moan.

I wholeheartedly disagree with Balla - on paper I agree but practically I've loved having different games and fandoms and niches represented. We play some Smash something like four nights a week and the DLC characters and stages/music are popular with us anyway!

Would be cool if it was Zagreus.

Yeah, I think this is going to be something different than just a single character. Or it will be a big video celebration of Smash with some behind the scenes videos or something cool like that

my instinct is that itll be someone low key and everyone will be upset after setting themselves up
