Surely nobody actually believes he should, though?

I mean I've definitely said myself that he deserves a spot, but I'm just being facetious. The idea of clinging to the hope is funnier than him actually being in it.

Just to play devil's advocate, though: there were nine Dragon Ball games on the Famicom alone. He definitely fits in the same category Snake does, i.e. older games being on Nintendo consoles.

I'm pretty sure they were. Targets especially would be a real gutter not to have.

My forlorn shout for a stage/music/character combo is Black Shadow, Big Blue, the entire F-Zero GX soundtrack.

I don't think the Snake comparison is accurate, regardless how of how decent those Dragonball games were.

Snake is a video game character; Goku is a character that has been in videogames. If you asked a random person what they would associate Goku with, they likely wouldn't answer "videogames".

If you were having a celebration about videogame characters or famous gaming icons - which is basically what Smash Bros has become now - then Snake would be in there. I'd be surprised to see Goku. He's an icon, but his fame comes from other media. Again, Snake is a famous video game character; Goku is a famous character put into videogames.

Announcing Shadow/Isaac as assist trophies and then Piranha Plant as a new main character is classic Nintendo. Honestly, I think Piranha Plant looks brilliant, a really creative new moveset and a great looking final-smash. Overall, I think the roster is superb, such a fantastic range of great characters and some inspired new additions. Perhaps Ken/Incineroar weren't the right choices for the final trailer, K Rool would have had more impact but it doesn't matter all that much.

Love the idea of Spirits, combining the stickers and trophies together in a really cool way and the adventure mode looks great too. Hopefully it features lots of cut scenes like the Subspace Emissary did. Smash on Wii U ended up being my least played in the series due to lack of single player content but this looks like fixing that problem which is great.

The battle pass seems like decent value for 5 characters, stages and soundtracks. I'll definitely be getting that rather than buying individually. Surprised that Spring Man/Ribbon Girl were shown in the forms they were as I thought one of them was nailed on to be a DLC character. Be intrigued to see who we get but really glad that it's five brand new characters with unique movesets as opposed to more echo fighters.

I wonder if a character being a spirit/assist trophy will completely prevent them from being a playable character. Personally I'd love to see more representation from Sonic, Robotnik would be a great addition and would give us another villain to add to the roster. Tails would be another good addition too although I doubt we'd get both. I'd also settle for Big the Cat :shifty:

Yeah I’m sure they were both in Smash 4, being this is supposed to be the ultimate version of Smash I would be really surprised if they dropped these modes.

I’m hoping it’s just the case that they are just not showing them off as they have little in the way of updates to them so they feel no need to showcase them.

Targets got bobbins in the last couple of instalments though, right after there were too many characters to make a unique one for each.

Whereas if you asked a random person about R.O.B, they'd likely answer "Who the strawberry float is Rob?"

Not interested in this game but I have watched the Piranha Plant reveal. When I first heard about it I thought it was a little strange but after actually seeing the character in action I actually think it's a really fun idea.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

The "no one asked for this!" reaction to Piranha Plant from the Smash community is ridiculous and full of self entitlement.

The newcomers in Ultimate has so much fan service. Ridley and K Rool are pure fan choices. Simon/Richter Belmont are heavily requested third party picks that they made happen. Isabelle, Inkling and Incineroar are popular characters from popular Nintendo franchises. Dark Samus and Chrom are also characters fans have asked for in the past and made sense as echoes for them to add in.

Heaven forbid Sakurai picks one off beat fun character nobody expected that's not even in the base roster but coming later as free DLC.

Quick question: I haven't had a chance to watch the direct yet, however I've read that the piranha plant is free if you register the game within a limited time. Do we know what the timescales are yet? I've been leaning towards asking for Smash for Christmas and don't want to miss out.

It’s the character I didn’t know I wish I’d asked for.

Incineroar, popular? Nobody told me...

You’ll be fine, it’s end Jan. according to the official site.

It's the end of January, so you have about a month and a half. Get it digitally or register for the coins to get a code.

Worst comes to pass it'll be paid DLC later.

Massively so in Japan apparently, no doubt because he’s a wrestler.

I think a lot of you are being very shallow when discussing why a character is in the game. Look past the demand for Incineroar and instead look at what the character adds to the game. He's a hybrid of Zangeif, Alex and R.Mika from Street Fighter and even evokes a bit of King from Tekken, that's something people will come to appreciate.
