It may not be as much as you think - Konami were absolutely desperate to get Solid Snake into Super Smash Bros. Melee, allegedly, and relations between Nintendo and other Japanese developers(Capcom, Square, Konami, Namco-Bandai) seem to be pretty strong of late.

Personally I think we're at saturation point for third party characters now - there are enough to make it feel like an all-star line up, but not too many that it feels like they're being bludgeoned in for the sake of it.

I’d sacrifice 20 characters for an actual story mode at the drop of a hat, hell Id be happy to lose 40 if it meant we could have a kind of adventure that the WoL trailer suggests at. Speaking of which, it seems very underhanded in your last marketing push to sell the game to show off something that’s clearly not representative of what you get in the final package.

Most places seem to suggest getting bored of WoL after around 10 hours, Gamexplain even said if it wasn’t for the review they wouldn’t have bothered finishing it. I’m just glad of those Switch new model / price cut rumours a few weeks back, otherwise I may have been tempted by that trailer to pick up the console package on the release. Not to fussed about playing it now, I can wait till Christmas and have a few matches on my brothers Switch.

I don't think that's quite fair, Sakurai explicitly said before introducing it that "The new adventure mode is more about fun than story" so no one should have been expecting something like Subspace Emissary.

It was also confirmed months ago that the only cut scene was the one they already showed.

Joker from Persona 5 was announced as one of the upcoming DLC characters at the Game Awards.

Speechless because I never would have expected this in a million years. Not much of a Persona fan but this opens the door to so many more potential characters making the cut now >,>

In contrast, I had no interest in Smash Bros until now and with that announcement, I'll no doubt buy it.

I loved Persona 5, and hopefully this is signalling that Persona 5 (maybe a P4Golden-esque special edition, Crimson?) will be coming to Switch soon.

I know of the character, but it seems like such a poor choice when they haven't appeared in any games on a Nintendo console. Just like Cloud.

Joker. That's sick. Maybe a sign Persona 5 is coming to Switch in some definitive edition form (or maybe just some crappy spinoff).

Been watching some gameplay and the game is looking fluid, so I may splash out on a Switch soonish. Don't have the most amazing connection though which is annoying.

Reggie was on stage with Geoff right after the announcement saying something about how there was a big chance the new DLC characters would be similar picks to this. I'd easily take more Persona characters and the like over all the Fire Emblem nonsense they keep adding.
