I've picked up the pace with this game again but I'm feeling really mixed about it. Quickplay mode is an easy way to find matches but it often embodies everything I hate about playing smash bros. It'll take time to get used to but I'm still really not liking how weak defence is in this game.

How weak defense is? So far Ultimate still seems to favour run away tactics and projectiles. Combo game still too weak and approaching is very difficult. Parrying is only effective defensively and offers nothing offensively which I think is where the game mostly goes wrong.

Just on the subject of ending battles quickly on WoL - my general tactic is to play as Falcon, Little Mac or someone else with good speed and power, use a spirit that starts the battle giant and just waste anyone who comes at me. Using that tactic I was able to end most battles within about ten seconds. Mac in particular is strawberry floating fantastic - two big punches and most characters have been skied.

On a related note, are there any ways to find Spirit battles you've missed in WoL? I'm 99.67% complete and that means there are something like two battles that I've missed somewhere along the line, but I can't find them. Not sure if the single final battles against the light and dark things count towards the percentage.

Finally - what's everyone's hardest battle in WoL? Mine was for The Boss, vs. Zero Suit Samus. Took me a few tries, before I hit upon the tactic of using Lucina, throwing her off the side and edge guarding with counter until she strawberry floated up a recovery.

Pauline was a pain in the arse as well. Had to Ganondorf that one.

Not that I've seen. Bit disappointing after Subspace Emissary, really. You can play through the Classic Mode in co-op, though, and that's arguably more enjoyable than the WoL spirit brawls.

Finished Simon's Classic Mode earlier: Why is Dracula's head the only bit that takes damage? :slol: Are his clothes just filled up with bats?

Guessing you've not played the original Castlevania?

Defence and runaway aren't the same thing, one plays the game by engaging the opponents approaches and retorting, the other chooses not to engage directly.
I'm talking about the former. Why is my grab game oos near useless? Why is my only option out of shield either a fast aerial or a fast dash attack? Why do I get framed trapped by my opponent pressing the same button on block just because I didn't parry? That's what is weak in this game. Parry beats everything on paper, but so does parrying in street fighter III and blocking is still good in that.
I do agree that this game needs more hit stun though.

Can't stand them. Played the N64 one for a bit and whatever version they did on the GBA. Do they ever explain why he's bats all the way down, or is it just "lol this boss needs a weak spot lets make him invincible unless you hit him in the face"

Also, playing through World of Light, do you get the same spirits in that mode as you get turning up on the spirit board? I'm sure I've won the same spirits twice before, which makes playing the spirit board a bit redundant (apart from the Event spirits), doesn't it?

No because there are only about 600 spirits in the world of light campaign, and just under 1300 overall. The majority of spirits will come from the board.

Yeah, I thought there wouldn't be the whole number in the world of light, but in that case, why duplicate them? Have 600 in the world of light and 700 on the spirit board.

Also, some of them aren't obtained through either. Some can only be gotten through the item shops in WoL, and others only through Summoning, I believe.

Word of advice for anyone still playing through WoL: when you get to the second part (you’ll know what I mean when you hit it), go up first. It’s by far the worst area, and if not done first will sap your interest in the entire mode.

Quick question about the final section in the mode: if I just go through all the Spirits, as I would normally, will things balance out?

Far and away those two and Dr. Wily. It doesn’t help that you come across them all relatively early-game, when your own Spirits and skill tree are still pretty weak. Think I could obliterate them all now, I beat most Legends on my first try these days.

First one, like you, I cheaped out: Villager, net drop off the edge, chuck bowling balls at until dead. Second one I can’t remember, I think it was Bowser and some lucky deaths. Third one I Franklin Badged to victory. Tough bastards all.

I don't understand how Wolf does so well given his poor recovery. A lot of his moves seem to have either long start-up or long end lag as well. He does feel quite nice in certain mus though, he has the range and power for sure.

Wolf’s move set is frame trap city. His f-smash is unpunishable on shield and he’s overall terrifying.
Also lasers lol.

I've been enjoying the online on this. I'm nowhere near elite level even with Falcon, my main, but I win more than I lose with him so I'm fairly happy. Had a strawberry floating nightmare with Little Mac on Sunday morning though. Lost four rapid, took me ages to rehabilitate his GSP to over a million.

Create an arena and I'm there.

EDIT: Got absolutely battered in case anyone was curious. :shifty: Honestly, predicting how an opponent is going to react is half the battle.

He's an effective space animal when used right. I personally love how aggressive you can be with Wolf too. Currently dabbling with a bunch of characters so I haven't put as much time into him as I'd like.
