What's wrong with that casting? Has there been as much "oi oi lads she's munts!!!" outrage elsewhere?

As usual I'm not getting all the rage about it. She looks perfectly fine to me as does the costume. I'm not familiar with her acting though so I can't comment on her suitability there.

The Mackenzie Crook pic was meant to be part of a point to say he wouldn't have been suitable as Superman.
But yeah as for casting, I definitely have no rage against Melissa Benoist, she's just not my cuppa. At least Calista Flockhart and Chyler Leigh are bringing up the rear...

I've not seen her in anything but apparently she was very good in Whiplash and I've got a bit of faith in the arrow/flash team making another good choice.

She looks more the part in that pic then the official photos in which she seemed uncomfortable. In fairness she could be great.

For the reactions, not the suit. strawberry floating misogyny on this forum is a disgrace sometimes, "Supergirl isn't sexy enough for me, WAH WAH" throw yourselves off a strawberry floating bridge you goons

How is it misogyny when I'm judging her looks for the character? I'm not saying she's a ugly munter but her looks don't fit the character she's supposed to play. Which is an important when casting a character. She could be strawberry floating awesome but I'm judging her on her looks and the suit I'm not sold yet.

Been hanging around with too many journo types on twitter eh skip ;)

I don't think it's misogyny to say you think she doesn't look right for the part. That's fine. But saying it's because she isn't "attractive enough" is borderline at best. Especially when beauty or attractiveness is entirely subjective. Like I said I think she's a perfectly attractive woman and for me she looks fine for the part.

The suit also looks absolutely fine to me.

The only differences (That I can see) between this one and the Helen Slater outfit are the lack of gold at the top of the boots and the darker tones and texture, which is in line with the Man Of Steel suit.

I think the suit looks naff. If they are going for the suit being some sort of Kryptonian armour like in the current comics then why not go for either a full suit or something like the current comic suit instead?

And it's too dark.

She is very attractive (god I'm a misogynist strawberry floating pig) but her looks aren't right for the part in my opinion. Now like I said I'll wait and see and maybe she'll prove me wrong but my initial impression (the only ones I can have considering we've only see two pictures) are mixed to say the least. I also think Gal Gadot is a bad choice for Wonder Woman. Not because she isn't attractive (far from it) but biased on her "acting" ability and my doubt in her ability to bulk up for the role. I think if we have to hold male superheroes casting under a microscope (people were just as hard on Chris Evans and Cavill when they were cast) then women casting should be fair game too. I don't appreciate being made out like some sort of horrible fuckpig for making a judgement based on the little we have to go on. Of course I'm going to judge the casting of a character on her looks and the Supes suit when there is literally nothing else to go on. Just like I've judged Affleck and Bats on the same and countless other characters before them.

I should have been clearer, I wasn't saying you were being misogynistic just that anyone who bases their judgement on the role on how "attractive" she looks is skirting close to that line. So sorry if you thought I was having a go at you personally.

Besides I'm always quite open when it comes to casting for comic book roles, as there's never one set in stone "look" for a character. Most characters have been drawn in many different styles, by many different artists over the years. The only thing that really has to look right is the costume and as long as the actor/actress isn't the complete polar opposite of the character (You wouldn't cast a short, fat, latino guy as Superman for example) there's usually a decent amount of wriggle-room.

Love the "finding someone attractive isn't misogynistic" retort. No, it isn't, it's also not the point or an excuse

She just doesn't meet my expectations of what Supergirl should look like. I don't just mean in a sliding scale marks-out-of-10 sort of way, I just mean in terms of actual appearance.

But Supergirl is a blonde woman and all of these people are blonde women. So what can the problem be other than her attractiveness?

Okay, so she's naturally a brunette but she's clearly dyed her hair blonde.

Shame there aren't any blonde actresses, I guess.

Naw, I'm kidding. It's the odd lighting in that photo, I didn't think she looked that blonde, but yeah I can see it now. And I don't think it's that great a picture of her - certainly not compared to the majority of those ones I've just posted. I think she has a face that suits smiling, TBH.

(I realise none of this is helping me prove in any way that I'm not misogynistic, but hey-ho.)
