There isn't a scientific consensus for the benefits of daily multivitamin and mineral supplements in the general population. Some studies find that supplementation can actually make your health slightly worse - for example, if you're not vegan then you're likely getting enough vitamin A already, and taking too much can slowly weaken your bones over time. It's a small effect but it can become a problem over many years. There are similar problems with taking sustained high doses of certain B-vitamins.

Multivitamin or mineral supplements might be of use if you have a specific nutritional gap you are filling, though. I personally take one if I realise I haven't eaten a varied diet in a few days.

The exception to this scepticism is vitamin D supplementation. We are all likely to be deficient in vitamin D at the moment, so supplementing our intake is a good move.

I take non-sustained release vitamin B-complex (depression really destroys my energy levels and I have an impaired gut due to coeliacs disorder, so I eat as much healthy food as I can, and almost no sweets/snacks/junk food, but don't necessary absorb nutrients effectively. I need to do what I can do get the most out of every meal throughout the day, to avoid crashing) and Vit D from Boots (I get little sunlight). The fancy brands are gouging based on 100% branding and false testimonials/hearsay (instead of any kind of clinical evidence) 99% of the time. The profit margins are astronomical and this doesn't really benefit medicine or science, so I wouldn't support them with my wallet. That's my experience/hot take.

I also suffer from SAD so take the Vit D. My mum got me a high lux output light many years ago, but my brother nicked it and dismantled it to grow weed and it disappeared. Thanks dude.

Now I live with lizard terraiums that require ultra violet light in the upper end of the spectrum, and they surely have some degree of similar effect. So I literally synergise with another species' needs to help manage my condition, and they help remind me of simpler creatures.

The area in which this gets extremely dangerous is things like MMS / Miracle Mineral Solution/Supplement / CD protocol / Chlorine dioxide / bleach to cure pretty much anything by "expelling pathogens from the body" which is completely and utterly bunk and leads to child abuse and sometimes death, nevermind all the side effects of, well, drinking bleach. This is sold and marketed as a "water purification agent" (Sodium Chlorite, which it is) and it's suggested you add a "weak natural acid, such as lemon juice" (which again sounds harmless - this is deliberate), but the resulting chemical reaction and compound/solution (as it includes water, which is the definition of a solution) is industrial strength bleach. People are told to swallow it or inject it up their ass in the form of an enema, but this part is only shared in private Facebook groups and dodgy forums that aren't subject the scrutiny of any kind of authority. This is increasingly practised on children with for example autism. I have actually spoken to one of these "practitioners" in the UK, self-styled "health mastery guru" Clive De Carle, who besides promoting ultraviolet ray beams from the Victorian era of experimental electronics and bullshit devices that can blind you, in order to cure cancer, amongst other things, he can't even consistently name the chemicals involved nevermind explain the concept of a chemical solution or compound and how that is different from the ingredients used to produce it, and has different effects.

Promoted by the same type of individuals in the UK, hyper dosing in some vitamins or minerals may have no effect, or ill effect. In the former case, whatever man, but in some cases it encourages junk science and actively funds truly nefarious bullshit that enriches scammers and banana splits all over the place (mostly, unsurprisingly, in the USA). The placebo effect is very powerful, and if that works then it's a legitimate psychological treatment, but that's really all it is. Regular exercise, fulfilling hobbies, mindfulness/meditation and maintaining healthy relationships with others, have better and longer term effects on health and wellbeing.

Edit: Oh wow. The other reason I bring it up, is because this gooseberry fool is still evergreen. While MMS supposedly cures everything, it's been all over the quack circuit for Covid-19 as well:

During the COVID-19 pandemic many previous promoters of MMS for other diseases, such as QAnon proponent Jordan Sather and the Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, began touting it as a cure for COVID-19. However, the claim that MMS can cure COVID-19, or any other disease, is not based on any scientific evidence.[35][36][37] The office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida filed for and received a preliminary injunction against its sale by another branch of the church which was using anonymous testimonials and appealing to conspiracy theories to explicitly market MMS as a cure for COVID-19.[38][39] That July, the court issued orders to shut down all websites selling MMS, to prevent the church from creating new websites, and to confiscate all materials used to make MMS. Multiple agencies were involved in the seizure of 50 gallons muriatic (hydrochloric) acid, 8,300 pounds of sodium chlorite, and 22 gallons of finished product. The church was also instructed to notify customers that the product distribution had been illegal.[40] Mark Grenon and his sons, Jonathan Grenon, Jordan Grenon, and Joseph Grenon were charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to violate the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and criminal contempt.[41] Mark and Joseph Grenon were arrested in Colombia in August 2020 and faced the possibility of being extradited to the United States.[42]
