But... barring CDkeys, aren't all the other console game key sellers a bit dodgy? To the best of my knowledge, retailers such as Amazon and GAME sell console download keys for exactly the same price as on the official digital stores. CDkeys sell Xbox games for a little less - and decent prices for older games - but barely sell any PlayStation games barring VR ones. Come to think of it, I'm not aware of many (any?) places that sell PS4 download games for lower than the official Store prices. CDkeys sell PS top-up cards cheaper and I do buy them.

For consoles, digital "competition" is nothing like the physical pricing competitiveness.

But thats because there aren't masses of keys sold compared to physical / second hand. if it is the only media there is more market, more market and more stores buying them and so more competition and better discounting.

Digital purchasing on console is overtaking physical purchasing; it's near 50% in the UK and way more in America. I'd have thought that there would already be significant competition in the digital market as retailers fight to grab a chunk of the income... but they haven't yet because of the monopolised digital storefronts.

You can't play their games without an Epic account. You have to download their Epic games launcher which is similar to Origin or Uplay without the store.

I'm confused because I play Fortnite on both PS4 and Switch without having made an Epic account?

Yeah, I was talking for PC.

I don't know how it works on console but I imagine you must be signed up to it automatically or something.

Surely you cant add Switch friend codes to XB friends list or vice versa, or can you?

You can play with people you have on your Epic friends list.

WTF is an Epic friends list?

Todd Howard blames Sony for no cross play in Fallout 76 -

In an interview with the German website gamestar.de Todd Howard responded to a question regarding cross play by saying that Sony isn't as helpful as they want them to be.

Todd Howard zeigt sich genervt von Sonys Blockadehaltung: »Wir würden das liebend gerne machen, aber aktuell ist das nicht möglich.

Todd Howard is annoyed by Sony's stalemate attitude: "We would love to do that, but right now that's not possible."

I think my Xbox did all that stuff in background, I signed into my Epic account on switch by sending a temporary password to my email and now it’s linked with Xbox but I don’t remember setting it up on Xbox, and I certainly didn’t need a launcher app.

He was talking about PC. It would be shite if you needed a launcher for different publishers on consoles, but who knows what the future holds....

There was a little with Xbox 360 and PC with Final Fantasy XI and I think a shadow run game.

I'm unsure on PS3 bar knowing that Portal 2 was Cross-play with PC.

There were a few PS3 and PC cross play games, there was even a Chess game that was cross play with 3DS, PC, mobile and Wii U.
