My right joy con has developed a problem whereby the SL button and the lights don't work but everything else is fine.

Opened it up to have a look and it works fine when open, seems like when one of the ribbons is pressed at a certain angle it loses connection which is obviously what's happening when the unit is closed. Going to poke about a bit more and see if I can make the connection more secure. Bloody annoying!

Also odd that the SR and SL buttons would be on separate ribbons but there you go!

My son’s red Joycons are both playing up, left has the drift and the right bumper no longer works.

The build quality on these things are horrendous.

It's a shame that the Switch joy-con appear to be so unreliable in terms of build quality; perhaps more so as Nintendo previously had a reputation for high quality - the Wii and U controllers being particularly good for reliability.

Having said that, I'm still using my original set of joy-con (April 2017) and haven't yet experienced any problems.

Mine are fine, but it’s probably because i hardly play on the thing.

Same with my ps4. It sits there gathering dust so my launch sticks don't have any rubber degredation.

So just updated and re-calibrated my left joycon, seems to have actually fixed it! Tried the same for the right, but nah, that one's just way too strawberry floated. Am sad. :c

No you just spray it into the analogue sticks. There is a little rubber cover on the base of the stick, you just jimmy the nozzle under that, give it a couple of sprays and rotate the stick about a lot.

It's only a temporary fix, drift comes back pretty quickly, but it's manageable.

Just ordered a replacement part for my right joy con which I am hoping will solve my SL button problem, only cost a few quid so I thought it was worth a shot!

Just to follow up on this. The part arrived super quick, here it is:



I followed a guide on iFixit for how to disassemble the controller, although in reality it was all fairly straightforward as long as you have the correct bits for a mini screwdriver (Nintendo like to use those "tri" screws to prevent access to most of their stuff)

Whipped the old one out and slotted the new one in and now everything is playing nicely again! All in all it took about 15 minutes and the part was only a few quid so I'm feeling chuffed!
