So, it seems the ‘Pro’ might not actually be a thing now.

FCC filings suggest its just an updated chipset for the current Switch. Possibly increasing battery life and helping with fast load times but it won’t be marketed as a ‘Pro’ system.

Read more about it in the OP here https://www.resetera.com/threads/nintendo-is-updating-the-original-switch-with-a-new-cpu-and-storage.128338/

That's probably a wise move. Nintendo haven't really been about "more power" for years. All it needs are a few quality-of-life improvements (adjustable kickstand, guys. Come on!), and a Switch-i could replace the original Switch system without being a straight up obsolescence-causing ("ONLY FOR SWITCH PRO") step change.

I suspect that very few games will now be made that use the rumble or infrared camera features to any great extent... although, to be fair, I've never been that impressed by the "HD rumble" aspect and the IR capability is barely used anyway. Even so, these features push up the price of the joy-con and yet they're not really going to be used now.

A few folk have mentioned that the smaller Lite screen makes some text harder to read in some games (even though the resolution is the same as the Switch) so maybe future games will be developed with this in mind.

I'm unsure about the Lite. I like the idea but the result isn't really what I'd expected; the loss of the basic "Switch" premise of the system seems, to me, to be an odd move. I can see that the new machine is just a way of appealing to another sector of potential customers but... no screen switching? Hmmn.

The power level would be the same as the handheld performance of the current switch, so if it works in handheld now it will be fine on this.

The current one has a power level of 10 for example, but in handheld runs at 5 so is slowed down because in battery.

The new one would have a power level of 5 and run at 5, so it runs everything the current one does just fine, but doesn’t need the 6 - 10 power because it can’t be docked. That saves space, money, cooling requirement etc.

Nice, that's the one for me. Hope people find out when it's on the market as Nintendo won't announce anything.

I wonder if the current £30 eshop voucher deal they're doing is to clear out all old models ready for this?

How would that make any sense, they'd have to start making games for another system them

This will sell loads of extra consoles they wouldn't have otherwise sold, it's a great business decision.

It won’t sell as well as they want it to imo. This is why i dislike the new nintendo. This product is awful.

The product isn't awful, it's just not aimed at you. For the market they want to hit, it's perfect.

Look at the release schedule over the next 6-12 months-2D Mario, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion 3, 2D Zelda, Animal Crossing....and in September they're releasing a handheld. The strategy is clearly to convert those 3DS players,.

It needs to be smaller at a cheaper pricepoint or theres no point. It doesn't even look that much smaller than a standard switch!

It's launching at $200. The 3DS launched at $250 and got subsequently dropped to $170. Arguably then its too expensive still, but it leaves room for future cuts. Maybe one day we'll even get a 2DS-like revision.

Despite our reservations, this thing will sell by the truck load. Funny to think that if it becomes the primary selling SKU, Nintendo have effectively taken themselves out of the home console market.

Why would that need to be the case?
There are no Xbox One X only games and the power difference between those machines is huge so why would games need to be Switch Pro only?

Fair point.
I wouldn't see the point of making Switch Pro only games though as I doubt the power difference will be earth shattering and shutting out normal switch users would seem like a rather silly move as I have a feeling the Pro model will sell more to people like me who've yet to get a switch rather than people upgrading.

HD Rumble is strawberry floating awesome when used well. Like, 1-2-Shit is gooseberry fool, but the Ice Cube and Marble games really show how cool a feature it is. IR pointer would have been perfect for Metroid Prime 4. The Wii versions of the Prime games are much better than the cube version (IMO) due to the pointer.

How thick do you have to be to say this when there's a new Pokemon game coming out

And that revised Switch news just sounds like a whole lot of nothing, just the general hardware revisions a product gets throughout its lifetime. Bet you won't even be able to know which one you're ordering.

Literally what you'd expect from a Switch Lite. Why did people think it'd be dockable? Like, did you guys think it'd be dockable but then just not come with the dock? I can see why that'd be a good thing, giving people the option to get a dock some day should they want to. But I think the point of this is to cut costs as much as possible.

Personally, it's not for me, especially when it looks roughly the same size as a regular Switch. Shoulda been a little smaller and foldable like a 3ds, even if folding it only served as a pseudo-case to protect the screen.

I think the screen is 5.5" versus 6.2". I think they deliberately avoided the clam design (even though there's definitely benefit) to keep it looking like a Switch so it's part of the same brand.

It's got a USB socket on it. It wouldn't have been beyond the realms of possibility to plug a cable from that in to your TV to charge the device and get video out.

I'm in the market for a switch but whenever I have owned a Gameboy/DS etc I've only ever played it at home.

Clearly not as thick as you. Lets see how it sells and you will shut up.
