Can't believe they removed TV connectivity.
They could have sold a dock separately, and they would have sold a gooseberry fool load of pro controllers too.

I think they’re releasing a separate controller for this. You’d have to be pretty silly to buy this instead of the standard switch.
I don’t think we will get a switch pro until late 2021 after this news.

I do love when Nintendo announces new hardware and the usual suspects waddle in not understanding it and decrying it as a terrible idea. Keep up the good work folks.
Its not for me but I can see the appeal of it, if they get the price point right and its a solid construction then it will do very well. Im interested to see what the battery life is like, Im assuming since this is pegged as a pure handheld theyve been able to make it last longer than the Switch.

Switch was said to be 2.5-6.5 hours (although I don't know how anyone is getting 6 hours out of it. Maybe leaving it on the menu screen with the brightness turned down and airplane mode on...)
Nintendo are saying 3-7 hours for this.
Obviously depends on the game but Nintendo have said Lite will give you 4 hours on BOTW-depending on their estimate of 3 on the original Switch, so 25% improvement probably isn't a bad rule of thumb.

IR pointer would have been perfect for Metroid Prime 4. The Wii versions of the Prime games are much better than the cube version (IMO) due to the pointer.
Isn't the IR sensor on the wrong side of the controller?

Possibly, I don't really use the joycon and use the pro controller. I also don't play it handheld.

Since firmware 5.0 there has been support for three hardware lines, one with the original Tegra 210 and two for the new Tegra 214 (Mariko)
Those two hardware lines are Switch Lite and Switch "New".
The original Switch has 4GB of RAM and 6GB for the devkit. The new models have support for both 4GB and 8GB (probably for the Dev Kit) of RAM.
Both Switch Lite and "New" use LPDDR4X DRAM which grants a small battery boost due to lower voltages.
Switch Lite has a smaller screen and non-detachable controllers while "New" Switch should have the exact same form factor.
The GPU in the "New" Switch is clocked at higher values than Switch Lite, potentially giving a modest performance boost.
Larger than 32GB memory is possible in the "New" units. Two models have been found in the firmware (codenames "Iowa" and "Calcio") and is speculated that one will have more internal storage.
There's absolutely no evidence of an actual "Pro" version. At least not in the sense that it would be based off of the Tegra X2 or have massive performance and/or memory improvements.

I still think this is a stupid idea. You can't switch between the TV and handheld?
Well, then, umm...it's not a switch. It's a PSP or some other shamboulie.
You also won't be able to play certain games. You'd imagine a handheld would be more kid friendly but...oh yes, you can't play Labo. Or the toys from Starlink. You know, the things designed for kids.
So, who is it mean for? I'm sure it'll sell fine, but I don't care about that. I just don't get the point of it.

I understand exactly what this is and what it does I just don't like it.
I think it will sell well to Nintendo fans and I still think it's not a very good bit of kit.

Something with actual improvements might be nice for a start.
The screen tech is ancient and would be piss easy to improve for a start. The Vita has a better screen and that's been discontinued for years and the fact that they're removing features is pretty shoddy as well.
I know this machine isn't aimed at me but if they had just put a little effort in I was going to pick up a Switch as there are games like Cities Skylines on the way that will be great to play during my lunch break but this machine is just not an improvement so I'm going to give it a pass.
This idea that any criticism of Nintendo (I bought and used 3 versions of the DS so I am a Nintendo customer) is only made by people who hate Nintendo is really rather insulting.
