That's great news! I had assumed it was like a 3DS and purchases had to be transferred over.

A quick google suggests you need to have the secondary console online when playing, which is a bit of a hassle, but a huge step in the right direction.

It’s a great idea, seeing as a majority of the games releasing from Ninty this fiscal year are from (recently) handheld platforms (Fire emblem, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, LM3)

I’m thinking this will sell tons this holiday season, then we will see a ‘Switch Pro’ model announced and released next year to combat against the new Next Gen systems.

Its not a switch anymore. Should have released a new 3ds or gameboy, not this crap.

As slick as it looks, I'll just wait for the pro version at this point. Even tho I primarily play handheld, it's still nice to have the option for TV.

This will sell loads of extra consoles they wouldn't have otherwise sold, it's a great business decision.

as someone who has never taken his switch out of the house and has kept it docked 98% of the time, this switch lite appeals to me.

The thing about removing the TV connectivity that rubs me the wrong way is that it feels like something they did in order to add value to the existing Switch to justify its price points. I can't imagine it being that much more expensive to just include the relevant port.

I don't know what price point they are going to set for the Switch Pro if and when they introduce it. Since the OG Switch is already pretty expensive, I would imagine they'd have to cut that and introduce the new model at something like the old price.

It won’t sell as well as they want it to imo. This is why i dislike the new nintendo. This product is awful.

Switch Lite: £170

Switch Pro: £270

It will have been done to save space and cost.

When docked the switch boosts power, if you dont let it do TV it's "max" can be the undocked stats so the processor is cheaper because it isn't a faster one being clocked back.
Also if you are never going run at those top speeds you need less cooling which saves on space.

It's not just a switch made smaller, it will be different kit in there to run at the speeds they need for handheld only that's why it is cheaper.

So are future games going to be borked so they can be played on this?

Its not so much because everyone else does (playing video games is proof of that, doing that to a significant extent when you are over the age of 30 is ostracizing, no matter what games journalists try and tell you about shifting demographics), its more about taking a tumble less and less well.
