How do you do fellow switch owners

Deeply unhappy Ad7, since I have just been to Wetherspoons for lunch and never seem to learn why that's a bad idea. Thanks for asking, though. How are you?

No. Most Kids toys ads tend to have young children, and I don't think any have 50-year-old dudes on skateboards.

Last time I was watching cartoons (very recently! ) the ads were full of 15 year old teenagers playing with fad toys for primary school kids. My point mainly though is that an advert not featuring 8 year old children doesn't necessarily mean the product isn't aimed at 8 year old children, so it's not a particularly incisive retort.

As I say though this specific Switch Lite announcement video is more generic and in-keeping with the overall Switch brand. Actual kid-targeting ads will follow I'm sure.

Yes.

If it's designed to be used by children, how will you play Labo on it? Or play simple 2 player with your friends without buying an extra controller? You know, like Mario Kart, Smash or...pretty much any first party co-op or competitive game. Perhaps it is for friendless children with no siblings or interested parents.

Or just for kids to share by passing it around as kids have done for decades now with handhelds.

Who says kids don't care about game enhancing things like rumble, or hooking it up to e.g. their bedroom TV? Or are you mainly talking about a Switch for toddlers?

I do. I have never once heard a kid mention missing rumble or wishing they could hook a DS or a phone up to a TV.

Also, suggesting that if you add these features back that it goes back to its original price suggests they haven't been able to cut costs in the 2 years since they made the original, which can't be true at all

Maybe they havent, maybe its a cash grab by Nintendo, I have no idea. Last I heard about any of that was the screen was still expensive cos its a weird size and resolution so its the only device using it, maybe the joycon functionality is expensive to add back in, new joycon certainly cost enough to suggest it might.

In fact, surely they'd be far better to just have a price cut on the original switch and sticking a picture of Bob the Builder on it.

Not gonna happen, they never cut the price off the Wii U and they couldnt barely give that away, not a chance will they cut the price of the console thats flying off shelves.

Is it okay if I, a 32 year old male, buys a Switch lite because it's more affordable than the full console?

Surely a lack of a price cut for the Wii U was more about stubbornness by Nintendo rather than a technical inability to cut the price by making hardware revisions?

Nobody is saying you can't it's just that some people have reservations and it seems that criticism of Nintendo is always responded to with claims that we don't understand them or just hate Nintendo.
If you buy the Lite and love it then fantastic .

I feel that's a rather weak argument as the machine isn't just aimed at children.
It's aimed at everyone and simply having a negative opinion is not the same as getting in a tizzy.

As i’ve already said its £50 cheaper than a standard switch. Really is silly buying this - even the size isn’t that small enough to be called a handheld. Its not a kids toy - £200 is too much for that. I don’t know who it is meant for, but it just doesn’t seem like a good deal at all.

Nintendo make lots of mistakes, there is a lot of gooseberry fool they do really badly, updating their hardware to be more kid friendly is not one of them. To reiterate one more time, this device is not aimed at you, it is for children to play and parents to have piece of mind.

I actually came in here to ask something and then realised I was in the wrong thread

HD Rumble is one of those things like the Wii U dual-screen setup or Motion+ that seems really cool in practice but has had limited uses outside that marbles minigame in 1-2-Switch. Very occasionally I've used and gone, 'Huh, that's cool,' but it's a nice-to-have rather than a game-changer.

I wouldn't be so keen on gaming with no sort of vibration feedback though.

HD rumble is pretty useful for the Labo kits (and they're literally the only thing that uses the IR camera, aren't they?), so I guess as the joycons aren't removable they've got rid of it for this as well. It does still have *some* rumble, right?

EDIT: Just looking into the whole "using one account across two consoles" thing - Unlike the PS4 and Xbox, am I right in thinking the Switch doesn't need to be connected to the internet to play games on the secondary console? So you'd make one Switch the primary console so any user on that console can play, and the second Switch you can still play everything as long as you're using your own account?

Would make a digital-only Switch future a no brainer if you could essentially buy the game once and play it on two separate consoles with two accounts. If that's how it works I'm tempted to pick up a Switch Lite for my girlfriend at some point...

EDIT 2: Wait I might have misread. Disappointing

I think it's the same on Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.

Which is weird considering the Switch by it's very nature is going to spend a considerable amount of time without an internet connection. Never mind. Could've been a big selling point, but t'wasn't to be.

It's like the speaker in the PS4 pad which is a stupidly simply idea but works fantastically well when done with a bit of thought. It's not expensive to put a speaker in a pad and I honestly feel every pad should have that feature.
It's little things like that and HD rumble that get overlooked but just add that little bit of extra magic to the whole experience .

Game now have the special edition Pokémon Switch Lite for pre order.

Absolutely!

I would wait a few months after release though so we can see hardware impressions on the Analag sticks.

I used to think of the Switch as the best console I'd ever played on until 3 of my 4 Joycons knackered in the space of a year and I massively fell out with Nintendo.

Im currently waiting for them to offer free repairs in the UK. I could do it myself without much difficulty but it's the principle. I shouldn't have to.

I'm now wishing I bought a PS4 and a cheap Vita instead.

If the ads are targeted at young children, it makes sense to show older children enjoying the product, because younger children like to imitate the behaviour of children older than them.

Also: why didn't they make this machine backwards compatible with the DS line?
