Interesting. Looks nicer than I was expecting graphically. System Shock 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games of all time (as are many of the games that they inspired/influenced!) so I am very excited to see what comes of this!

That said, I'm more cautious about this than I was previously as a result of the disappointment that was Otherside's first game Underworld Ascendant. Hoping they can do a better job of this and learn from some of the mistakes they made there.

To be fair they have been doing quite a lot of work on UA post-release so I don't doubt they have the will to improve, I just hope they have a got the core of the game right this time as it's hard to "fix" something like that if you don't get it right first time!

Specter being on board gives me hope, and the trailer short as it was, looks great. Not sold on how they've drive SHODAN this time but we'll see.

Promising.

New "gameplay" trailer, lots of interesting stuff to look at:

They've improved the look of Shodan, though there's still room to make it better yet and it's clear they are leaning more into SS1 than SS2 which is an interesting decision considering the second is the one with the greater awareness. I personally love SS1 but think they may have been smarter to link it more tightly to the second game.

I've mixed thoughts on this.

The new SHODAN model is excellent, far far better than the glimpse in the teaser.
The Cortex Reaver looks brilliantly macabre.

However I have little to no attachment to the original game which, as Jen points out, this seems to be a sequel to. In fact, from that footage it looks like a sequel in the way Men in Black 2 was a sequel: the same story rehashed in a different context. SS2 was so great because it took the best thematic elements of SS1 and turned them on their head to do something genuinely new. This trailer made it look like a re-do of the first game's themes. Which isn't really surprising I suppose. Warren Spector is working on this, not Ken Levine, after all.

We'll see.
