Revolving team captains each season (not literally) would maybe be a good idea. Though I think you'd also lose some of that "comfort food" factor if you got rid of Mitchell and Mack. Rob Brydon is good when he's being cynical, not when he's doing Ronnie Corbett for the 45th time (not literally).

The Ronnie Corbett bit is definitely overplayed, but it still tickles me when he interrupts a perfectly good impression with "I'm doing Ronnie Corbett", as if it wasn't clear.

Well that seems more like a filing on your part. Google is right there.

I'll just file that tip away, yes.

My point is, I haven't heard of any of these people (not necessarily a bad thing) but some marquee names would be nice.

A show that’s made up of comedians, and you want them to find bigger names than Lee Mack? Who would you like to see?

Are you one of those people who only watch American comedy?

Also, why would “marquee names” make it better?

What is going on on GRcade today? Must be something in people's cereal this morning.

1) Somebody I've heard of. From the last series, I knew Johnny Vegas and Katherine Parkinson. From the series before that I knew David Baddiel and Jo Brand. The one before that I knew Joe Thomas and Paul Sinha. Unsure if there's a trend there or whatever.
2) No, but I don't watch many panel shows which seems to be where most contestants are plucked from.
3) I didn't say it would be better. I would prefer a mixture of people I am familiar with and some I'm not; I don't think that's a particularly egregious thing to state and I don't understand why it's a big deal.

I think it's been categorically proven that marquee names doesn't necessarily help the show. The season with Russell Howard was the worst of the lot!

Yeah there's nothing wrong with wanting to see someone you know of in this show.

It'd be hard to find somebody Drumstick has heard of though.

Nobody is saying there is, but it’s an odd complaint when they consistently get big names from the world of British comedy on alongside up and coming ones and you’re still calling for a “marquee name.”

Exactly. And most people hadn’t heard of Mawaan Rizwan before the last series, but look how great a contestant he turned out to be.

Fortunately I didn't say the marquee names help the show.

Edit: I genuinely do not know what sort of group-think is rendering some of you incapable of actually understanding what I said and also what I haven't said, but it's wound me up, so I'm going to duck out of here for the time being.

That’s absolutely understandable. But they’ll never find a line-up that suits everyone in that way. I think you’re in a tiny minority of people who might watch Taskmaster but don’t know any of the contestants in this series.

I think you are all missing the main selling point of this series, Charlotte Ritchie, she's a babe

Yeah it’s great, not sure I liked the second series as much as the first though but would definitely still watch a third series.

Loved how the series concluded, with her becoming one of them.

So yes to would I lie to you but not not going out?

I really dislike Lee Mack. I find him to be one of those comedians that just can't let a moment sit and everything that comes to mind has to be said. He is quick, and he throws out so much gooseberry fool that eventually you'll find something he says funny but he's mostly irritating. Hoping that won't be the case on this.

See, I like Mack on panel shows as he's ridiculously quick witted, and some of his word play and connections are sharp. It's a bit old-fashioned maybe, but it's proper quippage.

He's not going to deliver a point with his jokes, do any biting satire or really dig beneath the surface level of a subject, but I find his quips to be consistently amusing. They aren't really "jokes" in the sense that he doesn't usually tell a story or have a big dialogue, it's usually just reacting to something, at speed. The format of WILTY suits him. As it does with Mitchell, who is a repressed, frustrated, verbose pedant - something I can sympathised with.

I think Mack will be good on Taskmaster, as I think he'll be competitive and petty, and I think he'd be surprisingly competent.

They must have tried to get David Mitchell to do it as well at one point. I think they've mentioned badgering some big names consistently and almost wearing them down, but I guess it's the commitment factor. Richard Ayoade must also have been invited.

Allegedly they’ve been trying to get Ayoade since the start, and he’s not against doing it but has a ridiculously packed schedule and has simply never been able to make the time.

I'm still surprised they never got Dara Ó Briain when Dave were making the show given how much other stuff he did for them.
