I would easily spend a year pretending I liked flavour of the month videogames for, say, a million pounds. And you would too! :slol:

It's one thing pretending to like a game, it's another entirely to spend your time creating multiple thumbnails of your own face in various reaction poses, tweaking titles and thumbnails until you find just the right level of clickbait to get the maximum number of views, title everything about yourself in the third person because your name has more value as a search metric than an identifier, and generally spend all your time worrying about how best to monetise and garner engagement from people, all for a 20 minute video where you have an exaggerated emotional response to a press release, and which most people will only be watching as background noise while they do something else anyway.

OK, fair enough, I see what you mean.

They seem to do pretty well.

Incidentally, turns out the guy who made this video is a dickhead who tried to pressure his girlfriend into getting an abortion, so that's fun. Why do I know this? Because both he and his now ex girlfriend ended up uploading videos about the whole incident to their youtube channels that are otherwise just dedicated to comedy sketches. So there's another reason being an even moderately successful youtuber is horrendous, you wind up airing all your worst and most personal issues to the entire world for some reason.

At first glance, yes it's a little bit envious.

But then you realise that the cost of that is to be a shallow, vapid, social-media obsessed twat surrounded by arseholes all while having to constantly be "on the clock" as whatever insufferable persona you've infected the world with.

I'd rather live my modest little life. It works for me and I can sleep at night knowing I'm not whoring myself out to make a buck from whatever trend these wankers are chasing at any given moment.

Can't stand youtubers (save for ker9000 of course!) in general. I'd hate to be one.

Edit: now I'm wound up, thanks

God I hate youtubers. You can spot the strawberry floaters a mile off in real life, utterly incapable of talking without waving their hands in the air the whole time.

The annoying thing is there are good channels out there. It's the ones that seem to straddle the line between youtuber and "general influencer banana split" that are utterly without merit.

Influencers in general can get in the strawberry floating sea as well. People happy to shill whatever gooseberry fool gets shovelled their way in as duplicitous a manner as they can get away with.
These strawberry floaters have done more damage to the mental health and body images of young men and women than decades of movies, TV and magazines ever did.
24/7 "content" being regurgitated onto a willing audience who lap it all up as they try and buy into the illusion that these soulless ghouls offer.

I strawberry floating despise what most of the modern day internet has become and what tech corporations and marketing companies have done to it.

There was so much hope and optimism for the Internet back in the 90's. Then social media gave a voice to the people and it turns out the people were just banana splits.

It's the digital equivalent of those lunatic preachers who would stand about talking nonsense, except now that nonsense can reach 6billion+ people.

The human race is strawberry floating doomed.

Post of the year already

The amount of credence these splits get it is truly depressing.

Some banana split in a top hat brandishing a plastic axe shouting his way through a review of Kirby, complete with smash cuts in the middle of a sentence and random clips from films to punctuate the HILARIOUS jokes.

I watch a handul of channels on YouTube, and there's some good stuff there, but what baffles me is the absolute shite that seems to be so popular. Just a cursory glance at the front page of the site and there'll be some crap like a guy reacting to someone eating a shoe or something, and it'll have millions of views. It's just utter, utter gooseberry fool. People trying stuff, people reacting to stuff, all incredibly low effort with zero creativity or imagination, and people seem to lap it up.

It's worth bearing in mind that the likes of TrashTaste were plucked out of nowhere and pretty much given a dream job, so they're not very representative. It's also clear from some people on YouTube that they come from money or are in a position where they don't have to work, so can dedicate most of their time to building a channel. It's also a limited and curated view of their life, so you're not seeing the bad bits, and you're not seeing all the hard work either. And talking of hard work, a lot more people probably try and fail with 'making it' on there than actually do, and you don't see those failures.

I tried including them as an experiment, didn't make a blind bit of difference to my views so i've scrapped that idea.

Yep, i can spend hours filming at a location making a travel vlog, then even more time and effort editing and uploading, only to end up with naff all views, yet something crap like that gets massive attention.

I don't like sand manufacturing. It's coarse and rough, and it gets everywhere.

I tend to watch opera and tolkien stuff on YouTube. Latest one was speculation on why sauron didn't team up with the balrog.
Thrilling.
