Anyone here good with plumbing/gas safety? I just checked our gas meter outside and it looks like there is water leaking from a join in one of the pipes. The pipe looks a bit rusted and orange. I'm thinking it must have happened within the last three months as I don't remember noticing it last time I read the meter.

I'm going to check it again when the weather is dry and if it still looks wet then I'll look for a plumber or gas person that can take a look. Don't think I'll waste my time with British Gas as they are useless.

Make a weak solution of washing up liquid and water and spray that on the joint. If you've got a gas leak then you'll get bubbles forming. If that happens, get a gas engineer asap (anyone corgi registered should do).

Cheers, I'll try that when it stops raining. Didn't smell any gas when I opened it so hopefully it's not quite that bad.

Edit - No bubbles or smells so I'll contact a gas man with pics later this week and see what they reckon.

Why do you need to know what he looks like before you contact him? :shifty:

Gas emergency man coming out to check my meter imminently. British Gas are concerned there may be a gas leak somewhere in the supply so I'm a little tense right now.

Gas man clearly isn't concerned as he just said he'll replace the pipe and that'll be it. He was saying that rain water will have come down the side of the house and in through the top of the meter box.

I mean, there is very clearly water coming out of the pipe itself so I think he's talking out of his arse but whatever.

If I die in a gas explosion, it's his fault and hopefully I'll die quickly

If he's not worried I'm not going to bother worrying either.
