Saw MCN share something on facebook with some preist or something screaming into the Mic and the text was like what's he singing wrong answers only. Immediately think of down with the sickness and scroll down a bit and MCN's comment was that as well. I didn't respond but just found it funny we thought of the same thing haha.

I was going to make this a thread but I feel really stupid bringing this up, but does anyone else feel super jealous of YouTubers and the lives they lead? I realise it's probably not all roses, but they make so much money just making videos and in making the videos they seem to have the money to be able to travel all of the world, move at any moment to any country they want to and not seem to have a single worry in the world. I hate feeling envious and I get the sensible thing would be to stop comparing myself to people better off than me, but when they're essentially making more money now than I probably ever will in my entire life it kinda hurts.

At first glance, yes it's a little bit envious.

But then you realise that the cost of that is to be a shallow, vapid, social-media obsessed twat surrounded by arseholes all while having to constantly be "on the clock" as whatever insufferable persona you've infected the world with.

I'd rather live my modest little life. It works for me and I can sleep at night knowing I'm not whoring myself out to make a buck from whatever trend these wankers are chasing at any given moment.

My mate works for a YouTuber-they were mates way before the channel became famous and he brought him on board 6 months ago because the workload was too much. My mate said the YouTuber never stops working, and is always on the clock. It's not a job it's a lifestyle and it's definitely not all roses.

Also, even though his channel is huge (big enough that I reckon some people here would know it) the money he makes really isn't that crazy.

I don't agree they don't have a single worry in the world either. It's an intense job where you say the wrong thing or something out of your control happens and your channel is dead overnight and your income is gone. It's really not that carefree.

Anyway, you're only comparing yourselves to the ones that are making a success of it. How many of them aren't and are struggling?

I don't think it's stupid. You're describing the few streamers at the very top, who make millions, live in luxury, and are set for life. It's totally normal to feel a bit jealous of rich celebrities with glamorous lifestyles.

I'm not even talking about the few at the very top, I'm talking about the people from TrashTaste who while are big youtubers they're not exactly the biggest youtubers, but you watch them stream or whatever and people will just donate like 50 subs or something and it makes you wonder where all these people making these huge gift donations get all their spare money from as well. I'm sitting here not really struggling but I in no way have the disposable income to do that kinda thing.

I make £100 a month if i'm lucky, and that's with 20K subs and nearly 7 years of non stop hard work behind me. :(

I somehow made a profit of £67 in my 1 year as a Twitch streamer. I really need to go back to doing that...

I suspect most of that came from some ad revenue on my Hitman 3 stream as I ended up getting the game before launch so I was one of the only people streaming it at the time :slol:

There's so much money sloshing about on YouTube and Twitch now that I see people donating a ridiculous amount of money or subs all the time. And for what? There's so much dross out there it makes me think that if you work hard enough, get lucky, pander to a certain type of viewer or niche you can make a decent wedge. I'm not sure it is worth it though.

I would easily spend a year pretending I liked flavour of the month videogames for, say, a million pounds. And you would too! :slol:

It's one thing pretending to like a game, it's another entirely to spend your time creating multiple thumbnails of your own face in various reaction poses, tweaking titles and thumbnails until you find just the right level of clickbait to get the maximum number of views, title everything about yourself in the third person because your name has more value as a search metric than an identifier, and generally spend all your time worrying about how best to monetise and garner engagement from people, all for a 20 minute video where you have an exaggerated emotional response to a press release, and which most people will only be watching as background noise while they do something else anyway.

Or you could join the horde of Youtube 'first time watching' reactioners and pretend you've never seen any films before. Just practice how to cry on cue and rehearse a bunch of responses to various scenes in the film.

They seem to do pretty well.

The reason it's mostly in the third person is the YouTubers who are at that level have editors and most likely people who upload all their videos, title and thumbnail everything for them. That's what makes me even more jealous, because they make enough to literally pay someone to do over half of their job for them.

Can't stand youtubers (save for ker9000 of course!) in general. I'd hate to be one.

Edit: now I'm wound up, thanks

God I hate youtubers. You can spot the strawberry floaters a mile off in real life, utterly incapable of talking without waving their hands in the air the whole time.
