The company is already paying for a fancy fine dining tasting menu. We work in London if that is any help.

My brother is setting up an escape room and he wants me to get a team together and give it a go when Im home this weekend, Im more than happy to do so but its in our home town, where I dont live anymore and Im struggling to think of anyone I know who does still live there. The sobering reality of being a billy no mates in my home town is a tough one to take.

Had an absolutely terrible couple of weeks so going to vent for a little bit.

First of all I got seriously mugged off at work for a promotion for someone I consistently outperform, due to "experience" when i've been essentially training for that job for the last four years for when the role became available.

A week or so later my cat got her tail caught in a door that closed in the wind and had to have emergency surgery and a massive vet bill to sort it all out. And because of that, my credit card ended up getting maxed out and pushing me into an area where i'll now be charged interest on it but I wasn't before which I really can't afford.

Then my brother had a motorbike accident as some pissed 90 year old came out the pub and tried to cross on a green light and was too old to make it. Thankfully they're both okay other than a couple of minor operations.

Then the next day my Mum calls me to say she's been diagnosed with lung cancer. The doctors seem hopeful that they've got things early enough to get things sorted out within the next few weeks and she will hopefully have surgery to remove it and that's it, but it's still a gooseberry fool diagnosis. To top it off, we agreed for her 50th to take her away for her first holiday in about 15 years and our first family holiday since me and my brother were kids. I work for the company which did our travel insurance and I had a quick look at what it would be to add that to our policy and it took our price up by an extra £2,000+ which means that we can't go on a holiday which we're only doing for her in the first place so even if things do go to plan and she is fit to travel, we just can't afford to go anyway now due to the insurance.

Hopefully that's the last of the bad luck for a while for me as it's definitely been a month to forget.

That escalated from pretty crappy to absolute horseshit. My condolences Joer.

Quick question as regards travel insurance - would you absolutely have to have the cancer covered, or would you be happy to set up a policy for her that excludes something going wrong with that but will cover for other illness and injury?

Ultimately it’ll be down to her and if she wants to take the risk. In my opinion it’s too close to when we go to do so as we’re going in July, so if we do book something else up and something does go wrong, we’ll all be strawberry floated and not able to cancel for example.

She works in a school so we have to go in the summer holidays so we’re already paying a gooseberry fool ton because of that, then my brother is having is own room as there’s five of us so we have to pay extra for that too.

Thanks for all the support guys, I realised there was something else I forgot to mention where my girlfriends Mum was diagnosed with epilepsy a few weeks ago so it means it’s just my Dad in my immediate family who hasn’t had anything happen to him yet so maybe we’ll have to wrap him up in cotton wool.
