Mum isn't very responsive today. She's completely out of it but she was awake all night so she's just sleeping. Waiting to see the doctor but they said it could be an hour.

Some of you might know (because I mention it a lot) I've got a degenerative cornea and I'm awaiting a graft.

The option to go private and (potentially...I've not seen the consultant)... go quicker (I don't understand how they get 'part' quicker) feels wrong...

Am I just being overly sensitive/pig headed?

Would that be through work health insurance?

I say go for it.

It might be or I might just look at it myself.

What is your question here? Should you go private because you can get treatment sooner? If you can afford it, why not.

Pretty sure if you go private you have to start voting Convservative.

I think I'm struggling because I don't see how they get a donor quicker (they come from same pool), other than gaming system somehow.

Can understand why that makes you uncomfortable.

Personally for something as serious as your health/eyesight I would take the opportunity despite the ethics involved.

If I were in that circumstance I would feel inclined to advocate for a fairer system at the same time though.

Yeah you get it.

There's different degrees of severity - so they might have a suggestion for non-graft eye (I know there's more options than on NHS)

Booked a consultation to see them. They can look at both eyes. It's not (much) money given stupid things I don't spend money on. Knowledge is power and also I can berate their entire existance and purpose while there.

The other thing is eyes are a bit wierd "shall we try this surgery that might work for £x,000 or might do nothing" is an odd one.

"Say Yes to roller skating, not crack" should be a motto we all could aspire to. If I could just get off the damn crack.

That amuses me because now Roller Kingdom has a drug dealer, a paedo and an elderly gang frequenting it.

And also because the ad was made by Rhett and Link.

Of course you don't see it, not with your gammy eye.

I would imagine NHS waiting times involve availability of staff and theatres, especially with something as complex as eyes. Private means they can find the specialist and pay them lots of money to operate at a more immediate time in a theatre that’s not already booked.

The donor graft would only be viable for a certain time period and if you’re top of list without a surgeon, maybe it goes to the person who can have it operated on in another hospital? Dunno really, I can certainly see why you’d want a bit more reassurance before committing.

Another update, another day of uncertainty but the doctors are basically saying they don't know what is going to happen. They said they don't know how treatment will go, but they'll continue treating her how they can and advised me to spend as much time as I can with her.

They said they can't tell if she's not going to make it, or if she will and said that if she does make it it's possible the infection will eventually come back and be worse, so it's a matter of enjoying any time we have together and I hope that that will be many years to come.

I'm going to continue being as positive as I can and we'll all have to see how this goes, but we have to take each day as it comes and hope for the best.

So I got called 3 hours ago and told to rush to the hospital because he told me she's dying.

She's still with me, they don't think she has long but I still have this delusion that she'll somehow get better from this. I was there for 2 and a half hours and she's in a deep sleep and unresponsive, but she's been like this before. I really still cling to the small bit of hope I have left because that's all I have left.

I'm going to try and sleep soon and go back in the morning.

I'm sad to say that my mum passed away about an hour ago. She fought until she couldn't fight anymore. I love you mum. I'm sorry it had to end like this.
