This. Any legitimate reasons that may once have existed for them a century or two ago, have long since disappeared and it appears to be mostly for knuckledragging fuckwits who like to bam up Catholics by marching through their neighbourhoods and past their churches (And spitting on their priests), playing songs about battles that were fought hundreds of years ago.
It's heavily entwined with Football up here and is a hideous stain on the reputations of both Celtic and Rangers (Though it's not entirely exclusive to them).
They are intimidating and disgusting displays of religious bigotry.
EDIT: As if to demonstrate how it's about nothing other than intimidating Catholics, marches that had been re-routed away from the Church where the Priest was spat on were cancelled by the organisors.
