Sounds like you handled it well, lad. But turn your focus back to your own little one and prioritise her. Very little you can do to reason with old dears.

Yeah I think that's probably the main take away from this!

It's just annoying when people don't see reason and you're stood their thinking (and this is a massive generalisation and reduction of the situation obviously) "this is why your little gooseberry fool is going to grow up into a big gooseberry fool"!

If you haven't seen this before, it is excellent - very on point

I confronted a parent once who had a kid that had upset ella. She had a word with her son and turned to me saying "he's sorry, but it goes both ways". Your kid upset mine. How does that go both ways?

I’m the complete opposite, I’m happy to blame my boy if he’s been a twat. He was sticking his tongue out and blowing raspberries at his cousin today. I told him off and my sister-in-law said “it’s not his fault, David was doing it first”. Which might be true, but my lad still got a telling off for responding.

He’s lucky I told him off and my nephew didn’t react, my nephew is a year older (he’s 4) and built like a brick shithouse. I’d be scared to cross him, my boy wouldn’t stand a chance.

So. It was in the national news last week. In a town about 3 miles from me a guy threw his 11 month old kid into a river. Despite the efforts of the police and fire brigade - the poor little sod didn't make it.
The guy was arrested. Apparently there had been a family row and he's completely lost it, grabbed the kid and done that. Given the extreme nature of it he was assessed for capacity but thankfully doesn't require our services. Would not have looked forward to that and the understandable local feelings about it (and their close proximity) could have led to some horrendous scenes. It's cliché but its the sort of thing that shocks a whole town and community. Messed up and I'm glad I'm not involved in it.

Doing a lot better. It was awful but ive had some mediation with the patient who accused me. She's apologised unreservedly. The other patients have all spoke to me wishing me well and saying how much they've missed me. one has even wrote me letters which is really nice and has helped. I'm ok now really. I didn't end up using counselling but have got a lot of good friends and a great support network which helped a lot. Plus its the job - after the initially shock or upset - you just take it in your stride. I'm back working with male patients again now which is just so much easier. All in all not too shabby.

My uncle used to be a cop in East Lancs and has been going mental about this story for the last week on Facebook. It isn't just the local community who've been shocked by it, it's the whole country. A strawberry floating horrible story, one of the worst you could ever read.

It's very difficult looking after people like that. It doesn't faze me tbh but a lot of staff struggle with child offences (especially those who are parents themselves). I nursed a guy many years ago who had horrifically murdered a little boy because he was noisy whilst he (the perpetrator) was trying to watch tv. I was one of very few staff who were able to nurse him with neutrality. Its a natural instinct I think that's hard to suppress.

People I know who live in the town where the river thing happened are both traumatised and really baying for blood. I think he would have been lynched if he hadn't been arrested.

It is appalling. Just horrible and almost beyond belief. I know a female officer tried in vain to rescue the poor sod. She was devastated.

I don’t agree with vigilantism (neither do you ;) ) but I wouldn’t lose sleep if they had lynched this prick.

Glad you’re feeling better btw.
