The German Market at Birmingham's great. Wouldn't have gone this early if I hadn't needed to go into the city anyway (and more on that in a bit), but since it was right by where I had to go, I enjoyed quite a few food-related items while exploring around the place. Great fun to listen to the house band they have singing a few Christmas classics while looking around the various stalls.
As for why I was there... The past few weeks my phone had been playing up. Whenever someone phoned, they would never hear me (and it's a good thing I hardly get any calls that are important, otherwise this'll be a lot more embarrassing a story if I were to tell it elsewhere). It was a new phone, but not under warranty, so I wanted to find a fix. Factory reset did nothing, the microphone still worked when used for anything else, and it was a bit of a mystery.
Went to a Team Know How on Samsung Customer Services' advice (with the nearest being a Carphone Warehouse in Birmingham), and the issue was a simple one. Dirt in the microphone. Of course, I knew it was there - how could I not have seen it? But my previous phone had also got dirt within it after a few months of use, and it had still sounded fine whenever someone had phoned (although people would always tell me I always sounded quiet. Guess I now know why), so I didn't ever assume that was the problem.
Moral of the story is make sure your devices are clean, and protect the important parts from dirt. And no doubt I'll have forgot that moral by the next day, anyway.
German Markets are the absolute bomb. I'm hoping that the one in Glasgow will make another appearance so I can pop in after uni twice a week for a big meaty German sausage.

It's frustrating that the mobile market makes phones that look good, but also expect you to ruin the appearance with a case for practical reasons like this. My phone doesn't have a cover for the charging port which I have since learned to be pretty criminal.
As for the Christmas markets in Birmingham, they’re excellent-we go every year with friends and have a night arranged for December.
If anyone is going, there’s a great spot a little distance away from the main market which has a stage with live bands, and a load of bars/food places around. It’s under the Suffolk Street Queensway near Tamatanga, on the walk from New Street Station to Broad Street. Has a great atmosphere in the evenings there.

It is indeed. This A70 of mine looks pretty slick, and I like it a lot better than the S5 Neo I used to have, but any case that could go on it either makes it more unweildy to use or store. And sometimes it won't even help anyway as some cases won't even have a covering for the vital parts.

Do any phones have coverings for the ports though? Don't think I've ever owned one where that was the case and can't say it's ever caused any problems either.

Sony Xperia phones used to have covers for the charging port (My old Z2 did), but the newest ones seem to have dropped this.
