It appears to have absolutely bugger-all to do with space or rocket launches, so I was way off in that regard. Apparently it was a big inspiration for John Williams's score on Saving Private Ryan which makes a lot of sense, it's quite militaristic but in a "brave boys doing a horrible job" kind of way.

Anyway, mystery solved, thanks all for playing :D

Just had to go and swear my marriage affirmation/affidavit at the British Embassy in Tokyo, to say I'm not married back home, so I can get married here.

The girl who did it was quite attractive, spoke really good English with a good accent and works at the Embassy. Should have looked at her seductively, cast my eyes down to "the goods" and said: "It's still not too late you know, the Queen doesn't need to know about today".

I was very relieved that it's done through glass windows, as I did eat quite a lot of garlic last night. It sort of felt like being in a prison though, which is quite foreboding when it was all about marriage.

But seriously congrats on the waifu. One annoying thing about this though is that if you have kids, they will have to chose if they want to remain Japanese citizens when they turn 21, as they don't allow adults to hold dual citizenship.

Well back to work today - I actually slept last night which is an improvement on yesterday.

I was a bit intimidated by the place too, but our guy was sound. Especially when we didn't have a place booked to actually get married (it's a turn up to the council office and sign gooseberry fool job) and didn't mind that we were obviously wingin it.

People at work are apparently leaving their drinks on the sink in the public bathroom while they're using the toilet. :dread: Someone had left a laptop and a cup of coffee in there today.

We have bumbags (to carry two/three phones, mess cups, pens etc) that are given out each shift and some people don't take them off to go to the toilet. I've now purchased my own :dread:

You got married on a whim whilst travelling in Japan? Did you not need a copy of your birth certificate at hand in order to swear the affirmation/affidavit at the Embassy? And then go get translates for any English documents at a city office? That's my next step, though if they will accept any translations I can at least do them myself.

Not quite on a whim. We prepared but wasn't sure if it would all go through so took documents with us and booked a translator when we got there.

So got up at half 4 this morning to catch a 5.20 train to London from Newcastle. Got in at 8.40 only to find the meeting has been strawberry floating cancelled!

So I’m now stuck in London all day until my train tomorrow with strawberry float all to do. Thankfully I’ve got my switch and I’m hoping I can check in early to the hotel so I can drop off my bag.
