I just read Matt Damon was offered Avatar on a 10% of royalties basis which he turned down. Would have netted him $250m, and that's without the potential success of the 17 upcoming sequels

Another one-Sean Connery turned down Gandalf and $10m a movie + 15% of royalties for Lord of the Rings because he'd never heard of the books before
