Granted I was very young when that Irn-Bru advertising campaign was running, but I remember it being about celebrating Scotland and Scottish exports rather than simply shouting a slogan in an exaggerated accent.

It was a bit like the Red Bull wings adverts wasn't it? People would drink it, perform some feat of crazy athleticism or attract 100 women with the implication that the drink was the source of their power, then the slogan would appear.

I kinda view the accent thing in a similar light to the really goddamn lame and outdated 'I identify as ...' lightly transphobic jokes. I don't think they're offensive in any particular way, but it's just such shite humour. I've lived in Scotland for long enough to find the place hilarious for many reasons, the accents not being one of them (it can help with delivery in certain situations). It's really lazy and shows a complete lack of any knowledge for the culture or what might actually make the place funny. Nowhere near as problematic as throwing on a comedy Chinese accent, but it's in that vein.

Surely anyone here is being disingenuous if they present an argument on the equitability of taking the piss out of accents, without the obvious and necessary wider consideration of the broad concept of power and historical context.

Calling bullshit on your transphobia comparison though, Banjo. That's much more likely to be delivered with malicious intent, or at the very best gross ignorance, and I would guard against categorising it simply as 'gooseberry fool humour', which should be reserved only for truly hilarious things, like classic jokes made during the first few pages of an AYAW game.

I think I might be hanging around people who drink too often, because its making me seriously consider just buying a bunch of drinks in just so I can drink at the weekends. I don't really need it and I know I don't so im going to stop myself, but I really find myself craving some nice rum. :/

I never drink at home, but since lockdown I've been drinking a lot of lager (as in larger) and ale. If I'm stuck at home then I might as well develop a drink problem.

I’ve probably drunk more at home since lockdown than before too, but even then it might just be a couple of bottles of beer in the garden or a rum during one of the many quiz nights we’ve been roped into doing.

I deffo have, bottle shop I like to go to has been doing deliveries, i now have a very well stocked drinks cabinet of rum, vodka and gin and a cupboard from of beer.

Anyone that hasn’t tried it but likes rum I’d recommend the BrewDog Spiced Rum called Five Hundred Cuts, it’s damn good (https://www.brewdog.com/blog/introducin ... d-cuts-rum)

Currently drinking a can of "Hazey Daze". It's nice enough, but the ring pull on the can was the highlight of my entire month - and it was my sons birthday a week ago.

With the tiny rebel brewery just down the road, we've had some deliveries from them. Had a nice mixed porter pack from brewhawk arrive a few days back. Also got some spiced rum and a few cases of mixed wines too. Also have some cider in on the off chance of a hot weekend day.

We only drink on weekends though.

I think the main worry for me is before I would maybe drink a cider once every few months or something if I went out somewhere, now im finding myself want to drink every weekend. I just bought some more but I guess if all im doing is drinking a couple one day of a weekend it's not really a problem.

That's not true.

"Is it time to eat?"

"Is it time to drink?"

"Is it time to sleep"

The answer might always be "yes" but time still matters.

It's really not a problem if you're drinking like that.

@Qikz: Having a couple of drinks while you do stuff at home on the weekend isn't a problem. If you like nice rum I'd say get some.

If you ever find yourself drinking because you "have" to ("I can't face going to work without some rum first...") that's when you should be concerned. Sounds like you are a long long way off that tbh.

It's good from a health perspective you're keeping an eye on it though, lots of people do end up drinking a bit too much even if they are not like, alcoholics.

The guidelines are to drink 14 units or less over 7 days.

What you're describing is well within that.
