I need an account? :o . I'd looked online, Dual, and saw that you order stuff for pick-up... I guess an account is created as part of the purchase process? Will check this out.

I'm starting to feel like a pro DIY-er 8-) .

I went the other week to pick something up and completely forgot it was click and collect only. Went outside, placed an order on my phone and then went back in and collected it minutes later. An account is really just a login for their website.

Yeah the account thing is nothing to worry about, you don't have to assemble a cabinet in front of a Screwfix judge to prove your DIY credentials or anything!

An account is essential, plus you can then check stock in your local shop and plan out your trip.

I want to fit in with the scene when I stroll in for the pick-up. I was thinking that I'd have to wear some overalls and don a bandolier of screwdrivers or something. I don't have a van to park outside, though, so they'll probably know that I'm a fake DIY-er :-(.

You'd have never known that the Maths group I was in was meant to be the top class. Loudest bunch of hooligans there ever was. At times it felt like I was the only one who wanted to learn something.

It's only C&C at the moment due to covid. You can still purchase stuff and pickup as a guest if you really don't want an account but you will have to call their Contact Centre. It's much easier to just order online though and create an account. It only requires an email address

I might've actually enjoyed PE if I'd been in a bottom set instead of just being a fat boy surrounded by jocks.

At my school we had sets for PE. There was a really crappy 'assessment' that we had to all do, and then we got a score from that which determined which sets we were put into. I didn't try in the test so went into the bottom set, but it was actually great. All the twats went into the top sets and did nothing but play football, rugby and cricket for 5 years. They never did anything else. In the bottom set we did tennis, basketball, hockey, table tennis, trampolining, weights, athletics, softball, etc. :toot:

Thanks, guys - I've ordered that curtain rail set and am gonna pick it up this afternoon. Tomorrow I've gotta try and flex the rail around the square bay window and line up the screws into the exsting holes. Gonna be an all-weekend job, I suspect :dread:  .

You'll know if you're a professional DIY'er if whilst putting up the screws then the pelmet falls down and you also end up knocking a radiator off the wall. I've never done a single job that didn't birth 2 extra jobs whilst doing it.

Little tip for something tricky like that, if some of the fixings are still in place, if you can, leave them in and use them to support the frame while you put the new bits in.if you had something attached with a screw in each corner, take them out and replace one by one, things like that.

Good advice, anything you can use to help support it while you work will be a huge help.

Doing this kind of thing solo can be tricky but I'm sure you'll manage!

 .

When the curtains fell down last night I was just serving up my tea. At first just a few rail brackets had snapped but as I tried to adjust them, the others snapped off, too. I thought that super glue may work but (obviously) it wasn't going to fix the brackets whilst the curtains were hanging off them :fp: . I then tried wrapping bits of sellotape around the broken brackets but that didn't work either :shifty: . I decided to find a bed sheet and hang it from two screws. After all that my tea was burnt :x .

Before anyone says it... yes, I should have just used bluetac  .

Thanks, dude - yeah, I think I'll be able to do all of them one by one (no context) as the existing (broken) brackets are still in place and will be the markers for where the new ones need to go. I think the toughest bit will be getting the rail to bend around the edges but I've read that you can use hot water to help flex the rail. Or a hair-dryer but, naturally, I don't own one!

Imagine if you'd used the blutac instead of tape to attempt a fix.

"Ah, I've got some blutac on the wall here, don't remember why but let's just pluck a bit off"

Amazingly enough that bluetac has stayed in place on my brick window sill; I think it has been about two years now. In the spring I plan on removing it and putting some sort of filler over the gap instead. Maybe!

Fully embracing the DIY lifestyle where any mistake, no matter how big, can be fixed with a liberal application of decorators caulk.

Let's face it Jawa after today's ScrewFix development you are going to be a DIY guru so I'm sure you'll be filling those gaps and fixing the Parakeet wood damage in no time!

Might have to hold off on attempting that curtain rail fix today. Last night I pulled my back whilst shifting a coffee table and I'm currently hobbling about in pain :-(.

Hope the pain passes quickly, jawa. That doesn't sound like a nice thing to be putting up with.

Given jawa's "vintage" I'm surprised he doesn't put his back out just walking around these days! ;)
