Yep, really should be asking the question, shouldn't they? As soon as you start buying items with the purpose of re-selling, you're in taxable territory.

Scum, subhuman scum.

Utterly disgraceful.

I've had it myself where i've gone online to buy something at release only to find the item sold out/being listed on ebay for a fortune.

If people don't pay tax on the profit, it's a great way to launder money.

I've got £15k from definitely not drug dealing I need to account for, so ill buy up a load of expensive consoles and funnel it through eBay, AND make a nice little profit on it.

There is no need for the government to get involved - it's online retailers that the issue lies with, allowing people to pop 10 PS5s into their basket at once. It should strictly be limited to one per person.

I do not want the government, specifically this government, getting involved with the gaming industry.

A lot of online retailers already do this though and it doesn't make a difference because of bots.

This isn't limited to gaming either, it is a far wider problem. The Government can legislate to ban bots without getting involved in the gaming industry, although how that works in practice and the impact it would have I don't really know.

Then they aren't doing it effectively enough.

But there's only so much resource you can expect them to dedicate to something that doesn't really change the money they make. The same amount of stock gets sold either way.

Perhaps people that don't like online shops that enable scalping should express their feelings with their wallets and cease shopping until these sites make the required changes.

I mean, the filth could still ask you where you got the money to buy the Playstations though.

You could sell PS5's to fake customers to do it though.

Yeah, best form of money laundering I think is through a service rather than product selling. I knew a drug dealer who's car was marked as a taxi. Genius really, as he has the perfect excuse for picking people up as he sells them drugs and can launder the money through his "taxi business".

Damn that's good, good reason to have a cash-only business too.

My mate worked for a takeaway in Leeds for a bit and told me that they never gave a gooseberry fool about the tills because none of the transactions were ever recorded, as there was a full time accountant in the back constantly cooking books so money could be laundered through. They'd literally invented fake supply companies so that there was a full record with receipts and everything for all the food that was never ordered, cooked or delivered.

Apparently it was a really good takeaway. The boss apparently suggested literally just investing the money into a legit restaurant and nearly got shot.

The town where I live has far more takeaways than is viable for a town of its size, pretty much everyone knows they're just money laundering fronts.

But so long as they do good parmos nobody cares.

When I was working for HSBC I spotted that a caravan park was strawberry floating obviously a money laundering front given their size and turnover. Reported them to my manager and he said they know but they’re responsible for something ridiculous like 20% of the income for the whole district and we couldn’t afford the loss from reporting them.
